Hi. I've noticed that you're one of the most active editors on WP:FFD, and I just have a question. Recently I uploaded the file File:Usheryoumakemewannaremixes.jpg and it was tagged with a disputed non-free rationale by Iruka13. I asked them about the exact reasoning for the tagging and they responded on my talk with this. I then proceeded to respond with my argument and was ignored. I removed the tag thinking maybe the latter was WP:SILENCE but was reverted. Is there an option to move the file to WP:FFD so both arguments can be presented and consensus determined? QuestFour (talk) 18:27, 26 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi @QuestFour. I'm very much learning the ropes on FFD, too. In my experience, second pieces of non-free content get a lot of scrutiny. The goal of including non-free images on song pages is to identify the work to a reader, so a second one often isn't warranted. Exceptions I've seen are usually where there could be an article written about a topic, but it's included for encyclopedic reasons (e.g. covers that were hits in their own right with independent coverage).
You certainly could take it to FFD (and copy over the discussion from you talk page), but I doubt it'll change the outcome. Based on what I'm seeing in the article, there's nothing to show the remix had significant independent coverage.
Good luck! :)             ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  02:23, 27 December 2025 (UTC)

FFD comments

Hi Widgetkid. You seem to be quite active recently at FFD. This is a good thing because often FFD discussions get as many participants as some other the other XfD noticeboards (such as WP:AfD), and more participants make it easier for reviewing admins to assess whether a consensus has been established. I have noticed, though, that you tend to use a bit of unorthodox formatting when posting. There's really no need to indent your WP:!Votes or other comments, except for the reasons given in WP:AFDFORMAT and . There's also really no reason to add your signature as a separate line beneath your !vote/comment. Unusual formatting can make discussions harder to follow for everyone, but particularly for those who might be using special devices to help them overcome MOS:ACCESS issues; so, it's best to keep the formatting as standardized as possible.

Lastly, it generally a good idea on any Wikipedia page to try and keep your comments focused on what's being discussed and avoid posting anything that might be more about who the uploader might be or other groups of people in general because such comments can be easily misconstrued/misunderstood and seen as a personal attack. This particular comment doesn't really have anything to do with the file being discussed and isn't really appropriate for FFD. It's not a question of whether someone agrees/disagrees with what you posted; it's just not really something related to what's being discussed. Please try to keep that it mind moving forward. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:14, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Hasta El Fin

Hi, I suspect you meant to tag the alternate cover in Hasta El Fin for violating NFCC policy, not the article itself? plicit 10:57, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

@Explicit, yes indeed. Thank you for removing the incorrect one!  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  16:53, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
Why is the alternative cover for Hasta El Final being discuss for deletion. What is going on with you and nother user putting these tags on alternative covers that I have uploaded in the past? Did Wikipedia their policies that the alternative covers are not allowed. Like this wasn't an issue in the past. Why is it an issue now? DominicanWikiEdit1996 (talk) 02:44, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
@DominicanWikiEdit1996 Could be nobody noticed until now? I'm not aware of any policy changes. Did you have questions about the relevant policies? I'd be happy to try to answer any questions.  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  03:27, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
They were noticed. I don't know if you are new on Wikipedia but an alternative cover is allowed as long as it doesn't look like the original. I have had a few that were removed because of similar it looked to the first image on top. But when it had a different look, no one removed it. They only made sure that the proper summary and license tag were on it. There are articles with alternative album covers. Michael Jackson's Off the Wall. Another example would be Quién Contra Mí by Reggaeton artist Yandel. Yandel's album as two alternative covers and they have been on Wikipedia for over a decade now. What makes those examples different from the ones I've uploaded over the years? Do I need to make changes to the description or what? DominicanWikiEdit1996 (talk) 09:12, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
@DominicanWikiEdit1996: There is no policy I've seen that says alternative covers are allowed just because they're visually different. If I've missed it, please direct me to it. I'm very open to learning!
Here's my understanding of why alternative covers typically aren't allowed:
  • WP:NFCC#3a: 3a. Minimal number of items. Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information.
    • The first non-free content item (typically the cover art for recordings) is allowed for identification of the subject, but subsequent non-free content must have a distinct rationale for use. For alternative covers, it could be things like it being independently controversial or a re-issue that received significant coverage. Whatever the reason, it should be discussed in the article and included in the non-free rationale. Your Off the Wall example is a good one. The re-issue received significant independent coverage and was the version in print for 15 years.
  • WP:NFCC#8: 8. Contextual significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.
    • Alternative covers don't typically significantly increase a reader's understanding of a topic, nor would omitting them be detrimental to their understanding. Again, there are exceptions, but that needs to be clearly and explicitly articulated. Here again, your Off the Wall example is a good one. There is discussion in the article about the re-issue edition and several independent sources covering it.
Quién Contra Mí is an excellent example of why WP:OTHERSTUFF does not apply. I have marked the two extraneous covers for deletion.
CC: @George Ho, how'd I do explaining this? Anything to add?  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  14:39, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
Dunno why you pinged me. As I see, one disagreed with your dfu tagging. Can't you self-revert the dfu tag and then take this to FFD? George Ho (talk) 17:54, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
@George Ho, I pinged you because I thought you might have something to add. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not going to self-revert my legit dfu tags. @DominicanWikiEdit1996 can if he likes and we'll be very busy at FFD.  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  18:15, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
I understand where you are coming from. I can always add more information to the articles if anything. Also, some of those alternative covers is to let the readers know that there were different covers or versions of it. As for the alternative of Hasta El Fin, I think only by Wikipedia users voting to keep it would be the only way to for it to not be deleted from the site. It's not necessarily a different version with a different tracklist, but more of a cheaper version of the album. It is refered to as "versión económica" which means budget or cheap version. I don't if the sound quality was different from it's more expensive version, but that's how it is referred, which doesn't mean much. So basically there might be articles with that cover, but it wouldn't mean much because it is still the same edition. DominicanWikiEdit1996 (talk) 21:14, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
My understanding is that it isn't up to votes, but discussion and consensus around how policies apply.
If you have more info from reliable sources reporting on alternate versions, definitely add it to the article.  ⚙️ WidgetKid 🙈🙉🙊  22:11, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
If it comes down to the image file being added to Wikipedia's files for discussion, than it would be up to votes because the replies will either say "keep" or "delete". DominicanWikiEdit1996 (talk) 01:59, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
I don't think that's not how it works. The important part is the reasoning, not the voting. The bold words are just for clarity / being able to see if consensus is being reached.
Per the FFD instructions for discussion participation:
Remember that polling is not a substitute for discussion. Wikipedia's primary method of determining consensus is through editing and discussion, not voting. Although editors occasionally use straw polls in an attempt to test for consensus, polls or surveys sometimes impede rather than assist discussion. They should be used with caution, and are no more binding than any other consensus decision.

King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller

Thanks for creating this article. I'm a big Roger Miller fan so I might have to give this album a listen. I also appreciated seeing someone else use Country Standard Time as a source, as they were one of the first country music-related news and review websites I found.

I do want to point out that Saving Country Music should not be used as a source on Wikipedia per our list of good and bad sources for music articles. @Cavarrone: It took me five minutes to expand Lake Traverse, and there were several more reliable sources I didn't even use. There was no "before". Magnolia677 (talk) 15:03, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
Hi @Magnolia677, @Cavarrone, and @Bearian. I was working on finding opportunities to take and add photos to articles of places in Minnesota, but kept coming across lake stubs with one or two sentences about the lake name, and/or maybe a bit more of basic statistics regurgitated from the MN Dept. of Natural Resources.
I did a manual (no bots here ) review of all the articles on List of lakes of Minnesota. No WP:GAME here, but fair feedback that I didn't do a thorough WP:BEFORE on each one. Nearly all of these were created in 2015-2016 by a single user and are orphans, so I didn't think it warranted spending a ton of time before PRODing.
Please let me know how ya'll would like to proceed. I'm happy to clean-up my own mess if needed. Thanks! WidgetKid this is the way 15:15, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

Most of these prods were good and the articles should be deleted/merged/redirected. Hundreds of these pages were mass-produced because they had the shortest passing mention in a name origins books, but that's not enough substance to base an article on. The fact that a lake exists and was given a name or is in a geographic database doesn't mean it needs a standalone article that says nothing else. It's unfortunate that our system can't take scores of prods at once – and it certainly can't take that many AFDs – but there needs to be a solution to the bulk-production of them as well. Reywas92Talk 03:58, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

I hear ya. There was almost nothing in 60+% of the Minnesota lake articles, and many of the others had not much more. Only about 10% have something that looks like a substantive article. I didn't realize that geographic features have a lower threshold than typical articles. Basically, they just have to have sources showing they exist. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe someday I'll work my way through a proper WP:BEFORE for all of them, but we'll see. AI usage

Why do you think that I used LLM for Barcode library. The article was written in 2020 and at that time was only GPT-3, which required 100$ per month and had limited usage.

However I agree, that from 2024 I use GPTChat as extended variant of spellchecking (semantic checking) and this is aloowed even for science articles:

Also, think to rework with LLM other my Barcode articles, because English is not my native (I am from Ukraine) and articles language is not so good. Alexandr.gavriluk (talk) 16:49, 17 March 2026 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi Widgetkid, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.

This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:

You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! signed, Rosguill talk 16:34, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

Congratulations!

Hi @Widgetkid, Congratulations as you are now a New Page Reviewer, I have noticed your contributions, specifically in the Afds. Great work. Also, I want to ask if you can review some articles I created but haven't yet reviewed due to the heavy backlog.

Happy editing! Thank you in advance! Zuck28 (talk) 17:29, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

@Zuck28, I'd be happy to - drop them here? WidgetKid this is the way 15:21, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

Upcoming expiry of your patroller right

Hi, this is an automated reminder as part of Global reminder bot to let you know that your permission "patroller" (New page reviewers) will expire on 00:00, 3 March 2026 (UTC). For most rights, you will need to renew at WP:PERM, unless you have been told otherwise when your right was approved. To opt out of user right expiry notifications, add yourself to m:Global reminder bot/Exclusion. Leaderbot (talk) 19:41, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

New essay idea

In the spirit of WP:ALLTHETHINGS, maybe you could write another semi-humorous essay for Wikipedia which is titled "WP:SOMEOFTHETHINGS", as in, SOME of the things are wrong with the page, though it MAY be good enough to "Keep" or "Delete" per WP:AFDISNOTCLEANUP etc. Iljhgtn (they/them · talk) 19:32, 1 March 2026 (UTC)

Following

Hi. Is there a reason that right after you edited the Evanescence discussion between myself and another editor you seem to have followed me to another article I recently edited (the article's page info shows you've never edited it) to revert that edit which references the WP:ONUS policy that your revert violates? I'm not saying this is what you're doing but take a look at WP:FOLLOWING as it can appear as such when done in such a sequence and especially if it's repeated.

As for the edit you reverted, as stated per WP the ONUS is on the person wanting include disputed content to seek consensus for inclusion. The content's inclusion in the BLP is disputed because the artist's husband is the one that was accused of hitting the security guard, and the subject of the article is the artist, not the artist's husband. The husband is not a celebrity, the artist is the celebrity therefore her name will be used for all media articles. WP is clear with the policies of WP:BLP and WP:NOT that BLPs are edited conservatively, BLP warns against defamatory content and privacy, and that WP is not a newspaper or platform to use for sensationalism, gossip, or collecting every aspect of a celeb's life. Wiki Editors for AI

Hi, I liked what you had to say against the hard anti-AI policy Wikipedia currently maintains. It will inevitably have to be repealed, and Wikipedia should be more open to emerging technologies than it currently is, taking such a hard-line approach. On my motion to repeal made here, please feel free to vote in favor or against by signing. Thanks. Ballardy Talk Page 14:27, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

@Widgetkid Would you mind having a look at this one for me. I've copyedited the life out of it. But there only seems to be one real SIG COV. Thx. Mme Maigret (talk) 16:22, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

For context, the draft was identified as expiring but possibly promising. I've since had a look at the previous deletion discussion and your analysis of the sources. It's possible that early, offline newspaper and trade sources might exist but music research isn't particularly my forte. Mme Maigret (talk) 02:39, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

I don't think it's unnecessary. The song itself officially has two version, the vocaloid using Hatsune Miku under "wowaka", and the vocal, performed by "Hitorie". Therefore, I think since the two version, we should keep the grayscale image too. Mnam23 (talk) 02:50, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Hi there, just dropping you a line about the possible RfC on changing this, as the debate seems to be petering out. I was thinking of a three option poll, with one stating clearly that WP:GNG was the primary factor in deciding the notability of albums/songs and that the 7 factors were only indications something might be notable, one stating that there is a presumption of notability if any of the 7 factors are met, and one being the current text. Does that seem logical or do you see a better way? Boynamedsue (talk) 05:37, 16 April 2026 (UTC)

Yup, I was thinking along the same lines. WidgetKid Converse 03:26, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Minneapolis College of Art and Design when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you.
