I've started WP:ANI#Unnecessary template "cleanup" cluttering watchlists and recent changes. Your input there is welcome. Fram (talk) 19:52, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Next time, I would encourage you to at least attempt to continue the conversation before immediately jumping directly to filing an ANI. I get that my last comment on the initial thread was interpreted by you as me attempting to end the conversation, but it took you less than 2 minutes to file an ANI after I posted that comment so clearly your ANI was already in the works. A little bit more research on your part into the issue at hand and a better understanding of Template code that you, a TPE should really have, and this could have all been avoided. Gonnym said it best, ANI should not be opened for "I don't like these edits" issues. ANI is for urgent incidents and chronic, intractable behavioral problems. Perhaps a review of the "Before posting" section of WP:ANI would help you in the future. Happy editing. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:07, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Replacing deleted editnotice templates

[edit source]

Hey @Zackmann08, would you mind if I replaced the editnotice pages that are currently being deleted to use an alternative, instead of immediately G6-ing them? I think there should still be editnotices on those pages, as the nomination objected simply to the hard-coded instances. Otherwise I'd also be fine with just creating them again. Sorry for not getting in touch a bit earlier here. Best, Staraction (talk · contribs) 05:44, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Staraction: Honestly, no opinion on this. I'm just following the TFD process here. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 15:26, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I understand. They've already been deleted and many things are now broken, but I'll work to fix them in the next day or so. Thanks for your TfD work. Best, Staraction (talk · contribs) 15:27, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Many things are now broken. Can you say more? What is broken? I want to make sure I don't cause more issues... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 15:35, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, sorry that I missed this, it looks like you've already found the thread on Izno's talk though. Best, Staraction (talk · contribs) 02:07, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Zackmann08, I think we've restored to a pre-TfD processing state now, but Template:Contentious topics/page restriction editnotice currently utilises the hardcoded templates in its code (lines 2 & 3). If you want to whip up something that @HouseBlaster and/or the rest of ArbCom might want to take a look at as a replacement for that code, that might be helpful. Best, Staraction (talk · contribs) 05:27, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Better use of tools

[edit source]

Regarding your JWB edits resulting from this TFD, you should consider using User:AnomieBOT/TFDTemplateSubster if all that is needed is to subst a template. Save you some time. Primefac (talk) 01:00, 13 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Good tip! Thank you! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 01:03, 13 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

sorry about that. I think i must have hit enter too soon!

the article's in a bit of a state isn't it. I was surprised to discover it survived an AFD as having been vastly improved some years ago - what it must have been like before! Morwen (talk) 19:25, 14 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

All good!! Keep up the good work. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:26, 14 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Building Template

[edit source]

@Zackmann08

I thought it was probably better if we start again. My apologies for causing you any distress.

If I have an attitude problem, it is probably bourne out of the frustration I feel, with things being changed for no apparent reason. I'm a reasonable chap normally.

I know you've put a lot of work into this template, although I don't necessarily understand what drives your need to change stuff.

1. As previously stated, Location and Address are two different things. There are two parameters to fill in. It used to work. It doesn't now.

2. Why should I now need to change every page to "pushpin_map_caption=" when "map_caption" should be perfectly adequate, and used to work well?

MartinOjsyork (talk) 20:34, 14 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate your desire to start over. Let's keep the conversation on Template talk:Infobox building to avoid WP:MULTI. Standby a moment I will respond there. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:38, 14 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox indents

[edit source]

I have noticed that you have updated numerous infoboxes, including changing the indent. One such article is Hardin College and Conservatory of Music. I wanted to let you know that the indents you are changing are created automatically in VE. If you feel this format is in error, I suggest taking it up with the VE or tech groups. You can spend your time however you want, but it seems like a waste of time to change format that Wikipedia is automatically generating; that is, appears to be approved. Anyway, thanks for you work. Rublamb (talk) 21:31, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You should not that these changes were NOT just changing the indent. The indentation is automatically adjusted as part of my cleanup, but the focus of these edits (such as Special:Diff/1345002630/1359511958) is the deprecated parameters. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:34, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I knew depreciated parameters was the main focus. I just hate to see any effort going toward correcting VE formatting vs. addressing the source of the problem (if any). Rublamb (talk) 21:55, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate the concern. There is ZERO effort being put forth, it is automatically done by User:Zackmann08/scripts/indent. The case you put forth is not the concern being addressed. What is of concern is cases where the Infobox looks like:
{{Infobox person | name = John Smith |
birth_date   =  12 Dec 1980 | birth_place       = [[France]]
 | death_date = 21 March 2020 |
 occupation = [[Chef]] |
 title = King |
 known_for = Cooking stuff
}}
Which happens all the time. User:Zackmann08/scripts/indent.js formats it much cleaner automatically. If another editor comes along an uses VE and it looks a littler differently as a result, that is no problem. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:58, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
A more sensible approach would be to use the format set in the template's TemplateData, which in this case is {{_\n | ______________________ = _\n}} As I've said on this page before, the problem with this indentation back-and-forth is that it produces huge diffs that are harder to patrol. So "no effort" for you results in "more effort" for someone else - and it's easily avoidable. Ponor (talk) 22:12, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ponor While I appreciate your opinion, if you cannot see the substantive change in Special:Diff/1345002630/1359511958 and find that huge diff too hard to patrol then I would encourage you to practice some more. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 22:14, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Special:Diff/1313558571/1359549884 is another example of why this indentation repair is important. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 22:18, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody said this is not important. It is. I've done the same (as a bot) many times. But while doing it, you can *probably* do a little better so we don't have to deal with VisualEditor's re-indentation per the rule agreed upon in its template data. Ponor (talk) 22:24, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated my script. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 22:25, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. And thanks to @Ponor for helping to explain what I was trying to say. Rublamb (talk) 00:43, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Side effects of fixes on universities

[edit source]

Your recent changes to a number of universities are placing the pages on Category:Pages using infobox university with conflicting parameters. As an example: Hofstra University (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Pages_using_infobox_university_with_conflicting_parameters&curid=418091&diff=1359722902&oldid=1356416244). Naraht (talk) 21:15, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Investigating... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:16, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Naraht: THANK YOU! The error was on the template (tagged you in the diff) as those parameters are no longer conflicting. I had planned to clean up the entire call to conflicting parameters once the deprecation was completed, but erroneously throwing pages in a maintenance category is never good. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Apologies for the oversight. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:20, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
huh, TIL you can ping people in an edit summary. I figured you would want to know. Conflicting cat now empty. Thank you for everything you've done on the template. Naraht (talk) 00:44, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It certainly is a nifty feature! Absolutely wanted to know and do appreciate you calling out the error so I could fix it promptly. Keep doing your thang! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 00:49, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Recent reverted edit

[edit source]

Hello. I recently made an edit on the page ‘Charlotte Dauphin’ that was reverted with the summary "Unexplained edits and content removal." My intention was to improve the article's structure and readability by reorganizing some sections and adding additional content supported by sources, while removing content that had no reference (for exemple: age). Some material was moved between sections, which may have appeared as content removal in the diff, but I did not intend to remove substantive information. Could you explain the specific concerns with the edit? I'm happy to discuss the changes and make adjustments where appropriate. Thank you. Hijokima876!! (talk) 13:01, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Amoung many issues, you blanked out a birth year and inserted a number of WP:PROMO external links. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 15:55, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification.
Regarding the birth year, I removed it because I could not find a source supporting it. If there is a reliable source for that information, I have no objection to including it.
Regarding the external links, I may be misunderstanding your concern. The links I added were primarily from independent publications such as The New York Times, Time, and Le Figaro, and my intention was to improve sourcing and coverage rather than promote the subject.
Could you indicate which specific links you believe are inconsistent with Wikipedia's guidelines? That would help me understand the issue and determine how the edit could be revised appropriately. Hijokima876!! (talk) 18:38, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion of edit at Emilie Ringe

[edit source]

You were right to revert the IP edit of Emilie Ringe, but it was more than just an inaccurate edit, it was an attack -- please check what the link is. I will warn the IP, but that may not do much of course Ldm1954 (talk) 16:52, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure how linking to IMDB is an attack?? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:54, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Please check the contents. Linking an academic to a porn star who has the same name without significant more support is an attack. If you check the history you will see that it happened before. Ldm1954 (talk) 16:58, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No where does that IMDB page list them as a porn star. The edit has been reverted. Let's settle down. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:59, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks but

[edit source]

Thank you for reviewing this, but as I see you've already noticed, I've moved 2023 Taipei babysitter child abuse case back to the mainspace, per reasons explained in the edit summary. I do expect that LLM tools were used in translation (these days even Google Translate uses LLM, it's very hard to find machine translation tools that don't), but that's not an issue per WP:LLMT (in either case, I did spotchecks and the translation seems accurate). I did ask the editor to fix a broken ref and add categories.

Once again, thank you for looking at the article, the more eyes, etc. Cheers, Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 03:41, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I defer to your expertise here. Looked worse to me but not a hill I want to die on. Thanks for cleaning it up. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:43, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Implementation of new version of Template:Infobox play

[edit source]

The implementation of the revised Template:Infobox play is wiping out all the original director information. Couldn't |director= have been copied to an inserted |premiere_director=, or will it have to be done manually? Saratoga Sam (talk) 19:27, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Yea I royaly effed up. Working on fixing it right now. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:34, 18 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Wrapper infobox isn't recognizing invalid number parameter

[edit source]

At Kevin Roche there is a |1=Kevin_Roche_Pritzker_portrait_1982 in {{Infobox architect}} that "Check for unknown parameters" doesn't catch in the preview message or error category. I've gone over the code but can't see where this is missing from the infobox. Any idea? Gonnym (talk) 15:52, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

That is bizarre... I have no explanation. My guess is that for some reason Module:Template wrapper is not passing this argument up the chain to the check on {{Infobox person}} but as to why that is happening.... No clue. I noted that if I changed it to |FOO= Kevin_Roche_Pritzker_portrait_1982 it does error. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 15:56, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, found it. It seems each wrapper should use |_include-positional=yes (you can test that page with {{Infobox architect/sandbox}}. Gonnym (talk) 16:09, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Oh snap! Had NO CLUE that was a thing. Good find. Learned something new today. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:10, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Maptype collision

[edit source]

At Bletchley Park, I wanted to add a mapframe= to give local area mapping. But the only way that seems to work is to replace the traditional pushpin map. Imo, that's a great idea but I predict opposition. Is there any workaround to get both? = yes 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 16:18, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You can keep both by just setting |mapframe=yes Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:19, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Look at line 53 of {{Infobox historic site}} for an explanation. If it doesn't make sense happy to explain! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:20, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
odd... I could have sworn I used mapframe=yes (because I thought but mandatory) But clearly I didn't or misspelt it, since it is there now and it works. Sorry for wasting your time.
Best I can do is award you a Medal bar to that barnstar. Huzzah! 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 18:29, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You are NEVER wasting my time! Don't ever feel that way. I'm just happy it was an easy solution Never hesitate to reach out... Also if you are on the Wikimedai discord, feel free to ping me there. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:31, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out I haven't gone completely insane. If I try to use mapframe-zoom= or mapframe-caption=, the map changes to all UK. It is not logical, Captain. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:24, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
See Special:Diff/1360493027... What is the issue you are seeing? Are you talking about the Pushpin map changing? You should be aware that in preview mode, you will see BOTH pushpin maps at the sametime. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:35, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Totally weird. It is an artefact of the mobile editor. In preview, I see the pushpin maps then a map of the British Isles in mapframe format then the caption. Save and it is fine. Wibble wibble wibble. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 21:16, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yea... Mobile is a PITA... As long as you got it figured out now! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:39, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Also, funny story, watching the World War II with Tom Hanks episode about Bletchley Park right now. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:39, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The history is epic. To see in action the reconstruction of world's first computer (kept secret for decades) is quite something. To see how they broke the unbreakable Axis ciphers is mind-blowing. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 12:58, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

If your RFC is successful and in the course of development you happened to create an "exit strategy" for the 20+ year old pushpin maps concept, I would be first in the q to tip a few off the edge. It is virtually unmaintainable. I created one many moons ago and when it needed to be updated because the base map had changed so much, it was such a RRPitA that I dumped it in favour of mapframe asap. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:00, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

So I LOVE the mapframe, but I think they serve different purposes. It should also be noted that the mapframe STILL doesn't effing work on mobile, despite years of complaints about it. The issue with the mapframe is that it is almost always zoomed in way too far to give any context. It is helpful to see where a museum is in a given city, or what other places nearby have wikipedia articles. But if I am wondering where in the United Kingdom Bletchley Park is, I personally prefer the quick glance at the pushpin map. I see them as complimentary maps. That may change in the future.. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:06, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
yes pushpins work at state or national level but are the wrong solution for local areas. Example: lifeboat stations around the coast = good usage; this lifeboat station on this stretch of coast, not good. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:15, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed... A tracking category I created a while ago that may interest you also: Category:Pages using infobox settlement with potentially too many maps (15,402). Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:22, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

[edit source]
The Original Barnstar
Thank you for the "mysterious but important" work that is updating uncountable infobox templates. I don't understand it in the slightest but I know it's for the good and I appreciate you taking it on. Imma keep smashing that thank button too but wanted to barnstar you as well. Cheers. jengod (talk) 18:06, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
You are very kind. If you ever have questions, don't hesitate to ask them! Will answer and explain what I can! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:07, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox clean up

[edit source]

Hi, I just keep seeing infobox parameter standardization on my watchlist. Can you explain briefly why that is being done? Not complaining in the slightest, just curious as to what's going and if there is a "bigger plan" here. Thanks, Renata3 03:41, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Basically I'm on the warpath. So the overarching goal here is best summarized by MOS:INFOBOXNAME. Gotta get things a bit more consistent. Another issue here is conflicting parameters. Let me know if you find any issues or have any other questions! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:43, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Birds Barbershop edits — COI disclosure and sourcing

[edit source]

Hi Zackmann08, thank you for the note on my talk page. I want to be transparent, I am one of the co-founders of Birds Barbershop and have disclosed my conflict of interest on my user page per WP:COI guidelines.

My edits aimed to:

  • Remove unsourced promotional language that was already in the original article
  • Add sourced content from Forbes, Modern Salon, Austin Business Journal,
 Austin Chronicle, and Tribeza
  • Update factual information including location count and expansion plans

I'm happy to discuss any specific concerns about neutrality or sourcing. Could you point me to which edits were considered promotional so I can address them or propose changes on the article's talk page instead?

Jrapaustin (talk) 21:28, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Please respond on your talk page inline with my original comments. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:29, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Note on infobox for Franco Togni

[edit source]

Thank you for your efforts to clean up this infobox. I happened to notice however, that his age is now incorrect as it doesn't take into account that he is no longer living. I thanked you for the changes you made, but hope you'll consider additional cleanup make his age correct in the info box.
