Happy New Year!

Hello GiantSnowman: Thanks for all of your contributions to Wikipedia, and have a great New Year! Cheers, Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:21, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
Thanks Iggy, same to you! GiantSnowman 10:57, 1 January 2026 (UTC)

Send New Year cheer by adding {{subst:Happy New Year snowman}} to people's talk pages with a friendly message.

Happy 2026 GS, keep up the good work here and keep it up outside!

Could this (please see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pablo_Felipe&diff=prev&oldid=1330538368) be another wrong (and it was undiscussed!) page move by this user? If i remember it well, they were forbidden from engaging in such actions back in the day. Also, if you notice in the pertinent article, you'll notice as the vast majority of the available sources call him simply "Pablo".

You have been briefed, cheers! RevampedEditor (talk) 16:12, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

@RevampedEditor: thanks for the heads up, I have reverted the move, and remind @Ortizesp: to use WP:RM for page moves like this... GiantSnowman 11:08, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
Certainly agree the YOB should stay there at this point.
When I had a look in the search bar for all football Pablos with one name after noticing this discussion, I noticed two of them born in 1991, one of them had just the year disambiguation which I felt should have had a month added to it as well and the other one had the month already there but may have been incorrect. Therefore I boldly moved those pages and also used Pablo (footballer) as a new disambiguation page due to the high number of articles titled in this format. Hopefully no damage has been done to any affected page. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 12:39, 4 January 2026 (UTC)

Football position question

Hi GiantSnowman! I became aware of a dispute regarding Luke O'Nien's position via an edit filter false positive. I don't follow association football, but I assumed that the player's current Roster profile at the Sunderland page would be an authoritative link. That profile does mention that he's a "versatile" player who plays different positions, but lists Centre-back as his primary position. Two other sources ESPN and premierleague.com list him as midfielder. Is there a rule-of-thumb for determining what position should appear in the infobox and lede? Cheers (and Happy New Year) OhNoitsJamie Talk 12:59, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Sorry, laptop unexpectedly broke and it's been waiting a fix for the past week! Many players are versatile and his club profile is a good starting point. I like to keep it simple in the lede and infobox, and then we can expand on it in a 'Playing style' section if appropriate. GiantSnowman 12:18, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

I have sent you a note about a page you started

Why did you undid revision of Kerven Belfort?

The information I gave was correct, But Sabah FC didn't announce it yet. But maybe it's confirmed because the transfer window just opened and I just saw him training in Sabah FC Facebook, Please reply ASAP. Thanks HaikalMalaysia (talk) 07:47, 6 January 2026 (UTC)

I'm not GiantSnowman but I can answer your question. Of The information I gave was correct and But Sabah FC didn't announce it yet, only one statement can be accurate. We can't be sure a player has signed until a club involved in a transfer has made an official announcement so we should always wait for such an official announcement before we update Wikipedia articles to reflect a transfer. Pretty sure this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/~2025-41422-91) is this utter nuisance (remember the shenanigans at Josué Pesqueira?) Hapoel Be'er Sheva fan, where Mr. Pesqueira once played. Also, in June 2022 you warned this person for removal of references in Miguel Vítor (please see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Assaf_Official&diff=prev&oldid=1092931265).

Look at the stunt the aforementioned IP pulled at Hélder Lopes, ANOTHER Be'er Sheva player (here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=H%C3%A9lder_Lopes_(footballer)&diff=prev&oldid=1331417318). We seem to have a pattern no? List of "contributions" seem to indicate only players from that club. Oh, here's another IP with same M.O. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/~2025-38560-43)!

Attentively, you have been briefed. RevampedEditor (talk) 13:53, 6 January 2026 (UTC)

Sorry, laptop unexpectedly broke and it's been waiting a fix for the past week! No longer editing so not a problem, in future can use WP:SPI? GiantSnowman 12:19, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

What's wrong with that edit? GiantSnowman 19:23, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

Nothing, i just notified you they have returned. And they WILL make extremely bad edits as removing the honours in Hélder Lopes (or other players of that club) again. You, of course, do as you must do my veteran fellow user. --RevampedEditor (talk) 19:27, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

GS, can you please drop your two cents here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:RevampedEditor#Edits_on_January_15%2C_2026)? A bit of an edit war going on, and my summaries still may leave a lot to be desired, but at least i don't remove references in my "cleanup" (the very last paragraph in club career, his only goal for Hamburger, other person has done it TWICE; i checked it and the source works fine)!

The external links modified message says: "No special action is required regarding these talk page notices, other than regular verification using the archive tool instructions below. Editors have permission to delete these "External links modified" talk page sections if they want to de-clutter talk pages, but see the RfC before doing mass systematic removals." So, I read that as literally "Editors have permission to delete these "External links modified" talk page sections". I delete them when I run across them as they no longer serve a purpose but I do not go hunting for them as the bot message also says "but see the RfC before doing mass systematic removals". I will not revert your revert of my removal at Talk:Alex Flett but as I run across those messages on other talk pages, I will remove them. There is no value in archiving those old bot messages. Hello,

I wanted to ask whether using Google Drive links to cite newspaper articles is allowed, or if I should avoid including the links and instead provide citations without them. For example, there are many archived Bangladeshi (both Bengali and English) newspapers available on Google Drive (such as those on Songramer Notebook), and in my opinion, including the URL in the citation would make it easier for editors to verify the authenticity of the sources. FNH004 (talk) 08:04, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

Whose Google Drive is it - your personal one, or that of an organisation? GiantSnowman 18:53, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
Its of an organisation that archives South Asian (mainly Bangladeshi) newspapers. FNH004 (talk) 19:39, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
Its part of their larger website FNH004 (talk) 19:41, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
Then I'd suggest it's OK. We often link to newspaper clippings, see e.g. Newspapers.com. GiantSnowman 19:53, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

Player Stats

Hello mate quick question…do I have to reference sources on a players career statistics chart? And if yes, how do I? Especially if said statistics don’t show up on any stats website i.e. Soccerbase or Transfermarkt.
For example, I know Greg Luer has played and scored goals for Horsham this season in both the Sussex Senior Cup and FA trophy as I’ve seen it with my own eyes and kept my own records…but if you as a neutral were to try and corroborate that it wouldn’t show anywhere. I want to get it right and keep our ex-pro players articles up to date.
Thanks for your help!

Danhall1245 (talk) 18:26, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Yes, they should be - see example at e.g. Nahki Wells. If a player plays in a game that isn't covered by a database, then add a match report. Transfermarkt is not a reliable source. GiantSnowman 18:48, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Draft: Oliver Irow

Hi GS. On 17 January you moved the page Oliver Irow to draftspace. The article was soon re-created so we now have Oliver Irow and Draft:Oliver Irow. Irow has made his debut and scored goals so the live article seems valid. Perhaps you would delete the draft. LenF54 (talk) 17:23, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

Playing/scoring does not confer notability - it's WP:GNG that matters. Trout for @Thegeordieman: for creating an article already in draft space! GiantSnowman 18:22, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

Hew Mun Weng

I've taken a look at the talk page of Hew Mun Weng, I've noticed you had commented about stopping blanking stats tables (e.g.[1]). Seems like this user is still doing it (e.g.[2]), despite your advice provided earlier this month. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:46, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

I suggest it's raised at ANI for a review and hopefully longer block, do you mind starting it as I'm not really around over the next few days? They've been warned multiple times by other users, and also been blocked before. GiantSnowman 21:47, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

Triviality of nuance?

Hi,

In the Template talk:Infobox football biography, you dismissed and distracted the discussion twice and accused me of badgering, plus (mis)representing others perception of good faith, which is not exactly in accord with WP:CIV.

  1. Transfermarkt, was not brought up as a source, whether it's reliable or not was irrelevant.
  2. Mansplaining about clicking the contents, where the argument is against prose and for convenience (mentioned right before).

And the rest of your comments were simply tautological repetition, just read them in order:

  1. we are encyclopaedia. Trivial.
  2. Wikipedia does not care about that.
  3. It doesn't need to go in the infobox.
  4. not notable and not worth mentioning

Why?

  • because "many have said" and it's "something that nobody wants" (circular reasoning by definition)

While the arguments were simply for convenience (as well a importance), containing examples and nuances to be addressed, keep calling them 'trivial' is not gonna solve them.

Then at the end, you mention "there is no discussion", again speaking on behalf of other's. How would there be any discussion if one constantly repeats oneself, despite all the details?

If you're not interested in a discussion you can let others take it, nobody forced or asked you to take part in a "no discussion" (your own words) 6 times, when you've made your point once.

Now, I was ready to let this all go, until I saw you're an admin with "20 years" of experience. Xpander (talk) 22:01, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

I brought up Transfermarkt because your opening post literally said "Some sites like Transfermarkt already support this on their player profiles", so now you saying that it was "not brought up as a source" is entirely false.
Accusing me of mansplaining is WP:UNCIVIL / WP:ABF.
Not a single person supported your suggestion, maybe think why.
Posting on my talk page is a prime example of the badgering I complained about at the infobox talk page! Therefore, please do not post here again. GiantSnowman 08:40, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
It was brought up as an analogy (as in pattern template), this shows total lack of WP:AGF that you're now accusing me of making false claims (i.e. lying). Whether others agree or disagree does not concern you, you only represent yourself and nothing more. Please stop this behavior and this conversation. Xpander (talk) 15:57, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
If you want to stop the conversation, please simply never post on my talk page again. GiantSnowman 15:59, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
Gladly. Xpander (talk) 16:03, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

GS, what's your intake here if you please? This is getting a bit out of hand (and now, the other user contacted me via edit summaries with a very strange one; i don't understand Chinese but i get the job done translation-wise with the help of Google T, unlike them! They also got the point of my reversion completely wrong)...

If i'm not mistaken (could be, even 20 years later!), infoboxes are only for managers and players am i correct? Attentively RevampedEditor (talk) 16:35, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

You are correct to remove non-managerial roles (although not from 'current club') - you are incorrect to de-pipe the clubs. GiantSnowman 11:34, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

Vandalism

How about this utter nuisance?! Removed a sourced honour at Sérgio Oliveira without one word (please see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=S%C3%A9rgio_Oliveira&diff=prev&oldid=1339816479), and now upped the ante at Leonardo Jardim and removed NINE (see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Leonardo_Jardim&diff=prev&oldid=1342437088)!! All that without a single word.

Attentively RevampedEditor (talk) 15:50, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Revert, warn, and if they continue, let me know. GiantSnowman 18:21, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

Per your request: I am not sure if an Eastern Conference win in the MLS constitutes an honour, but here you have the nuisance in action (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Luis_Su%C3%A1rez&diff=prev&oldid=1342793283), removing another accolade without one word. So far into his WP career, not a single letter in a summary!

Regarding the topic i brought up last week (check your archives, about 10 P.M. on 4 March), the IP continues wreaking havoc. See Lars Unnerstall where, just to get his version in, he removed the ref i added to box (those Eurosport profiles - also added by me back in the day! - still work, but now they only display name of player, not even full) and reverted the box/chart below updating of stats... Pityful!

If a range block is not feasible (i very much doubt it), then we'll just have to revert and move on i guess. Attentively --RevampedEditor (talk) 20:13, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Unsure about the practicalities of a range block, feel free to ask at ANI. GiantSnowman 21:21, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Atzimba Casas

Hey there. I recently began working on Atzimba Casas after it was nominated for deletion. This is my first complete footballer bio (I worked on José Cardozo for a bit but stopped). Curious if you have any feedback on how to improve. I nominated it for DYK but wasn't sure if this would be good enough for GA. Unfortunately the article is missing a free image but I may be able to reach out to her for a picture through the school's directory. Thank you in adv, Morogris () 15:09, 17 March 2026 (UTC)

Hello there, I noticed this 1951 Zentropa Cup article and its very confusing lead. I have no idea what editor added it, but it seems very messy and just not... proper? I am not a native English speaker, and I got very confused reading that it. I don't know what the editor is trying to say, but I might also be wrong here. Could you look through it if you have time and maybe make adjustments to the lead? or maybe completely remove the current lead and replace it? Thank you for your time GS! Bloody hypocrite

You are always reverting newbies and TAs for inserting unsourced or poorly sourced correct content (or sourced content which you didn't recognise), often labelling it "vandalism" (e.g. here (see this), or this warning for "unconstructive" edits for adding correct information (a pattern which has been going on for many, many years, with countless baseless reverts and incorrect, bitey warnings), but then you have no issue with making an edit like this, declaring someone dead without providing a source, which is a lot worse than declaring that someone wone a football cup or correcting someone's height without providing a source. Please stop treating newbies and TAs like shit and start checking whether their edits may have been imperfect but constructive edits; and please apply at the very least the same standards you apply to them, to your own edits. Fram (talk) 12:14, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Oh, you're back, good.
This was somebody replacing sourced content with unsourced content. I was fully entitled to revert.
This was somebody replacing sourced content with unsourced content. I was fully entitled to revert. However, if you bothered to look at the very next diff, you will see I immediately restored the 'correct information', complete with a source.
This (my edit) was updating something already sourced in the article, so not sure what your issue is there.
Please stop stalking/harassing me. You have literally returned from 1 month away and decided to immediately take a trawl through my contribs. It's pathetic/scary. GiantSnowman 18:05, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
":This (my edit) was updating something already sourced in the article, so not sure what your issue is there." Perhaps the fact that is wasn't sourced in the article??? Have you even checked this, or just knee-jerk reacted? As for the other two, for the first you not only reverted (I like your word choice of "entitled to" there, rather telling), you labeled it vandalism, which you as an admin of sorts are supposed to know is not a word that should be used for genuine attempts to improve Wikipedia, albeit in imperfect ways. For the second one, you also gave them a vandal warning for what was clearly a correct, constructive edit. You even removed the same information.
I will not stop pointing out your admin/editor misconduct until you either resign as an admin, or stop with this type of misconduct (and as pointed out, hypocrisy in not bothering with the same standards for your own edits). If you continue like this and don't want me posting these things here, then they will end up at ANI or Arbcom. But your admin and editor conduct has for many years now been way too often problematic. Fram (talk) 19:17, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
Yes, maybe because the source was removed by an IP a few days before I made the edit... (and which I didn't notice when I made the edit).
There is no misconduct here, we both know it. You just have nothing better to do than pick on me. Grow up and go away, please. GiantSnowman 19:22, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
So it wasn't sourced, you didn't check, and you didn't check when this was pointed out to you. But people adding unsourced but correct information get the instant vandal treatment from you. That you don't see a problem with this is exactly why you shouldn't be an admin or shouldn't be patrolling other people's edits. That this kind of conduct can go on for years is one of the reasons why I have largely stopped editing. Oh well, I guess, considering your completely inadequate response, that we will be back with more of the same issues very soon, until finally others realise that without intervention you will never stop. Fram (talk) 19:31, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
So you're totally fine with editors adding unsourced content to BLPs / removing sourced content, but because I looked at an article and when I went back to edit a few days later and I didn't notice that in the intervening period somebody had deleted a source, I'm deserving of some kind of punishment? C'mon now. GiantSnowman 20:07, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
I am not fine with new editors adding unsourced but correct information to articles being treated as vandals over and over and over again.
I am even less fine with a veteran editor/admin doing this for years after this issue has been raised over and over and over again.
And when that same editor then sees no problem with adding unsourced info to an article because they may have seen it sourced a few days earlier... If a newbie had made that edit, you would have reverted them, called it vandalism, and given them a warning (even if, as in the examples above, you would then go and add it yourself with a source, which you could have done without the intervening negativity of course). If you do it, it's a honest mistake. That's an appaling double standard.
You should really follow WP:BITE and WP:VANDAL much, much more closely. Fram (talk) 20:17, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
You didn't actually deal with my query, but that's fine, I get your point, although unsure how edits like this are an example of "intervening negativity". No need to reply, thanks. GiantSnowman 20:30, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
I replied directly to your query, without falling for your false dilemma as if there are no positions between "totally fine" and "vandal!". And that edit wasn't one o fthe "examples above" I think... Fram (talk) 20:35, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
And I have no idea why you would turn an article related to Sierra Leone into a mdy-fest either[7], seems completely wrong. As it looks like a deliberate edit against policy, should I treat it as vandalism? Fram (talk) 20:35, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
That article already primarily used mdy (see e.g. the birth date templates that said |mf=y, majority of dates were in mdy format including opening lede birth/death dates etc.), so actually I was merely abiding by WP:DATERETAIN. But no doubt if I had changed it to dmy you would have had had issues with that?
You are more than welcome to simply not stalk my edits given it clearly bugs you so much. GiantSnowman 21:28, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
No, you were not abiding by DATERETAIN: "If an article has evolved using predominantly one date format, this format should be used throughout the article, unless there are reasons for changing it based on the topic's strong ties to a particular English-speaking country, or consensus on the article's talk page." Sierra Leone is an English speaking country (= official language), and an article about the president of a country has clearly very strong ties to that country.
DATERET only applies to articles without strong ties to an English speaking country, as explained in the section right above, MOS:DATETIES.
Articles on topics with strong ties to a particular English-speaking country (see Wikipedia:Manual of Style § Strong national ties to a topic) should generally use the date format most commonly used in that country.
Can you please stop falsely believing that you have a good knowledge of our policies, guidelines and MOS, and refamiliarize yourself with them? Again and again you misapply, misinterpret, or ignore them (see also another recent discussion where you mistakenly believed some local football page was an actual guideline). Fram (talk) 07:49, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
And why does SL being an English-speaking country mean it HAS to use MDY over DMY? List of date formats by country certainly suggests DMY, and that is what I would normally use for SL-related articles, but as detailed above it was apparent to me that MDY was established in that article.
Given you are started off by insulting me, and continue to be overly aggressive, it is clear you have no intention of having any good faith/constructive discussions. As such, please do not post here again, thanks. GiantSnowman 17:54, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
Don't ask questions if you don't want a reply. If you disagree with the MOS, take it up at the MOS page. Even if all dates had been mdy, it would have been perfectly acceptable to convert it to dmy per the MOS. But, as your edit was clear, both systems were in use before you came along. In any case, for that and similar articles, dmy is the MOS-prescribed system, no matter what system is already in use in the article, just like an article on an American topic should be (with limited exceptions) mdy, no matter the system in use at the moment or when it was created. Fram (talk) 18:03, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
Ever heard of a hypothetical question? (That was also hypothetical btw).
Given you missed it last time, plus my previous request that there was "No need to reply, thanks":
Please do not post here again. GiantSnowman 18:17, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

Hey, I hope you are doing well. I was wondering if you might have guidance regarding how to approach this player's nationality as I realized the other editor I pinged hasn't been active for awhile. Congratulations, GiantSnowman, for being on the receiving end of the Wikipedia 'inappropriate templating of the day award'. No comment on the content dispute, but this has to be worth a giggle or two. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:50, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
Thanks Andy - tbf I'd expect nothing less from the 'Texascowdude'... GiantSnowman 17:08, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
Sorry my brother @GiantSnowman, I truly am. But I didn’t feel like I had much of choice. I have seen your history of continuing to try and dominate the article. You have also continued to ignore every person that has called to reinstatement the things you keep removing. You have also resorted to somewhat passive aggression against pro-reinstaters in both the edit logs and the discussion itself.
You have three warnings remaining.
Kindly,
Mr. Cow Dude Texascowdude (talk) 17:28, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
You cannot end an 'apology' by saying "You have three warnings remaining", speak to other editors with respect or go away (and I'll be ruder next time). You are falsely claiming that I am the only editor proposing what I am proposing, which is simply not the case at all - and in any event, WP:NOTAVOTE. GiantSnowman 17:51, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
Brother, please calm down. I’m just stating the facts. I don’t wish to get you blocked, which is why I only sent you a warning. Also “I’ll be ruder next time” could be interpreted as a threat for irrelevant attacks, but I’ll assume good faith from you and say you’re simply frustrated.
If you no longer wish to engage in the FB talk page I understand.
Have a nice day my brother! Texascowdude (talk) 17:57, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
Please do not post here again. GiantSnowman 17:59, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

You are invited to participate in the Destubathon of the Americas, a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to £2000 ($2680) in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:00, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

Notice

The article Ben Field (alleged murderer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

BLP subject's notability is entirely due to coverage of the crime of which he was convicted. His conviction was just overturned, so, per BLP:CRIME, this article should be deleted, as we wouldn't have an article on someone who's only alleged to have committed a crime. In the event he is retried and convicted, the article could be recreated, if appropriate.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.

If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. BubbaJoe123456 (talk) 13:10, 16 April 2026 (UTC)

James Trafford

HI GS, I saw you reverted my edit adding the Premier League Save of the Month award to James Trafford's page. I added it because every other recipient of the award ever has it listed in their honours. MessiIsMyBezzie (talk) 19:20, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

That doesn't matter, see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS - there is consensus at WT:FOOTBALL that we do not include this as an 'honour'. GiantSnowman 20:18, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Hi GS. Thanks for coming back to me. I understand where you are coming from with this. I just wonder what is the point of having an article for the Premier League Save of the Month if the award is not notable enough to list in a player's individual honours? Is this specifically less notable than the Goal/Player/Manager awards? I appreciate your perspective on this. MessiIsMyBezzie (talk) 00:56, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
In my view - yes, it's not notable. There will be so fewer contenders than for an outfield player award, for example. If you want to seek wider guidance, feel free to ask at WT:FOOTBALL. GiantSnowman 09:08, 1 May 2026 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
  • The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
  • Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
  • Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
  • The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.

Franco Cucinotta

Hello, it actually makes a lot of sense, because it explains why he was an Italian player rather than a Swiss one. He might take the Swiss citizenship and play for Switzerland, but chose not to change citizenship in order to keep himself eligible for Italy. At that time an Italian player coming from abroad had to pass one season through an amateur club in Italy in order to be signed professionally (see also, for example, Giorgio Chinaglia and Pino Wilson) . Blackcat 13:51, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
PS and, though technically nobody could prevent him from being called by the national Italian team, it was a virtually impossible thing for an Italian outside the Italian league system.

I understand the concept - it's the wording that makes no sense. GiantSnowman 13:54, 15 May 2026 (UTC)

Histmerge request

Hi, I have manually merged the content of Varese FC into SSD Varese Calcio. However, the latter article should be renamed "Varese FC". Could you kindly do a histmerge of the two? Thanks, Nehme1499 (talk) 16:31, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

Unfortunately not, see WP:PARALLELHISTORIES. GiantSnowman 17:11, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
Would it then be possible to move SSD Varese Calcio to Varese FC, without maintaining the history? Nehme1499 (talk) 17:16, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
I don't think without deleting the article's history, which is problematic... GiantSnowman 17:17, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
What would you suggest? Because as things stand the club is located under its old name. Nehme1499 (talk) 18:11, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

Call-up to youth training camp

If a player is born in one country and they are called up to the youth national team of another country for training, does the lead have to be changed to reflect that? For example, with Zakaria Taifi, he was born in the US and he was just called up the Morocco U23s for training, should his lead change from is an American professional soccer player to something like is a professional footballer...Born in the United States, Taifi has represented Morocco at the U23 level? Raskuly 🐰 22:22, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

No, training camp or even 'declaring' for a national team is not enough IMHO - you have to actually play for them... GiantSnowman 17:21, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

Re: June 2026

Hi. Paolo Sollier was primarly a football player, so the main image should be related to football... where's the problem? In addition, an high-resolution color image is obviously better than a b/n one... again: where's the problem?! Your last edit seems completely unjustified Danyele (talk) 16:45, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

You simply deleted a completely valid image from the article. I have no issues with you swapping them, but that is not what you did. GiantSnowman 16:46, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
I have some reservations about a low-quality b/n image could be considered valid; In addition to the fact that, given the short length of the page, including two images seems problematic, to say the least Danyele (talk) 17:02, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
