[edit]Hi. We need to make sure that the language used in our articles is encyclopedic. Wikipedia is not a fan site, so words like "huge", "under its spell" are things that a fan, or the press might say, but Wikipedia needs to be written in a WP:NEUTRAL tone. We summarize the *facts* that are stated in reliable sources in neutral language, but we must not editorialize or use WP:PROMOtional language. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:03, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Ssilvers Frankly, your behaviour is annoying and patronizing. First you revert a WP:GF edit because it lacked a reference. You could have put a citation needed tag and have left a message on my talk page instead, since I am not the kind of editor that does not reference information as you could have find out if you had bothered to do so. I am sorry, I had to stop editing because duties outside Wikipedia called. When I restored the information with the necessary references you reverted it again, implying that I was the one starting an edit war! An apology would have been appropriate, but when I restored it again, with additional information, you started to change the content, in particular deleting 'Blackbirds mania', while this is corroborated by two well researched sources. Maybe you should read WP:OWN so that you understand that your behaviour is not acceptable. Disagreeing over the exact phrasing is OK, that is something we can discuss, but deleting referenced information is not. - DonCalo (talk) 22:00, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- I did make a mistake in my 2nd edit, when I did not notice that you had, finally, added the refs. But I stand by my deletion of unencyclopedic language. As a matter of fact, what I did "bother to" "find out" about your editing (see the "September 2024" heading above) is that you *have* added facts to Wikipedia articles without citing your sources in the past, and other editors have tried to educate you about this key policy, which you continued to disregard in this case. WP:V is at the root of our crowdsourcing philosophy. In any case, if you wish to discuss the phrasing, feel free to start a thread on the article's Talk page, where all interested editors can participate. Regards, -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:44, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- The incident you are referring to was a content dispute and not about not citing sources. But I already noticed that twisting the facts is one of your specialities under the guise of "deletion of unencyclopedic language". - DonCalo (talk) 10:45, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Edit warring
[edit]
Your recent editing history at Charles B. Cochran shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. - SchroCat (talk) 10:26, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of List of post-war social security reforms in Italy
[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on List of post-war social security reforms in Italy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Notability debate
[edit]Buongiorno. I noticed you reverted my recent edit to the carusu page, of what I thought was a notable recent depiction of a carusu in popular culture in the game Mafia: The Old Country. I checked the page history and noticed for the past 3 months, you have been reverting edits from other people attempting to contribute the same thing that I did. I was not aware of the three established things my edit violated before your revert.
Before I continue, I want you to know that I have no intentions of attacking you or belittling you. I only wish to challenge your position and have a respectful and civil debate on it. I just felt the need to say that, because I know you've gotten a lot of flak in recent months for your hard-line position on this.
You can find more details on my opposing position and my counterarguments for it on the talk page for carusu. In a nutshell, I believe it is notable not just because Mafia: The Old Country is a well known work of fiction that is the latest entry in a video game series called Mafia that has been immensely popular worldwide for at least the past 15 years since the second game was released, but also because many people may now be discovering what a carusu is because they played this game that depicts one as the protagonist. A lot of people who are mostly unfamiliar with Italian history likely would never know what the carusi were if it wasn't for this popular video game.
However, I do think you reverting my edit did help give me some ideas and, if we can agree to come to a compromise with admin approval. In hindsight, I think my brief synopsis of this cultural depiction of a carusu was too detailed, and as a result included some details that weren't as relevant to the subject of the article. I made that mistake because I wanted a description of the notable recent cultural depiction to make sense to readers who weren't gamers, and readers who are unfamiliar with Mafia: The Old Country.
There's more on what I think would be a better approach than my initial one on the carusu talk page. I don't think I would have realized that had you not reverted my edit, so I thank you for that. I hope this is the first step in coming to an agreement on this.
P.S. I know you aren't an admin, but personally, I think it's unfair and inaccurate that many of these edits adding this game as a cultural depiction of the carusi were described as "vandalism", including by two Wikipedia admins who both briefly protected the page 2 months ago. I find that unfair and think that their assessments are wrong, because most of these edits appear to have been made in good faith, and I think that most of the people making them likely didn't understand what they were doing wrong. Including myself, initially. I just wanted to make sure that didn't go unsaid, in case any admins might be reading this, and can see my point.

Articles about mafiosi from the pre-Corleonesi era
[edit]Hello, I have noticed that there are very few Wikipedia articles about mafiosi from the pre-Corleonesi period (with the exception of "basic" figures like Bontade and Inzerillo). These individuals are fundamental to the history of the Sicilian Mafia, and personally, I find this period the most interesting—before the turbulent Corleonesi era. It is also extremely difficult to find information about them across the internet; they are practically forgotten in history.
Since you are probably the main active contributor to articles on the Sicilian Mafia here on Wikipedia, I was wondering if you might consider creating articles about some of these figures, if you find it appropriate and feasible. Examples I have come across include Rosario Mancino, Mariano Troia, Vincenzo Nicoletti, Gaetano Filippone, and Diego Plaja. For all of these individuals, it is extremely difficult to find information.
I feel that Wikipedia may be one of the few places where these relevant figures could be given more visibility. Erturant (talk) 14:46, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Erturant You’re right that there are few articles about mafiosi from the 1960s and 1970s (and perhaps too much emphasis on lesser-known mafiosi from the Corleonesi era). There are English-language sources, such as Servadio (written in 1976, so before the revelations of Buscetta and Calderone), Shawcross and Young, Dickie and Stille, to mention some. And of course, Italian language sources, in particular reports of the Antimafia Commission. For instance, regarding Rosario Mancino, this early report of the Commission is quite useful. - DonCalo (talk) 08:38, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Diamond Workers' Protective Union of America when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance.
