Indonesia set for August 17?

[edit]

Hey there. With us running a Philippines set next week and a USA set next month, I was wondering if we should feature Indonesia next. I just realized that we missed a good opportunity to have an Indonesia-focused set last year to coincide with Indonesia's 80th Independence Day. It would of course be a year late, but would you support or help work on an Indonesia set on August 17 to make up for it? Apart from that, I'm also wondering if we can have a Malaysia set next year to coincide with Malaysia's 70th Independence Day, but it's probably way too early to discuss that. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:41, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

  • It sounds like a good idea, Narutolovehinata5, but I don't know if we'll be able to get enough support. For Indonesia, Juxlos and myself do have quite a few under our belts, but we tend to deal with specific subject areas. For the Eid set, going so far out of my normal area left me reaching at times... I wouldn't be as underequipped for Indonesia, but I do worry that we would have trouble reaching the variety level. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 14:59, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
We could invite more editors if needed. Jeromi would likely help. I wish I could contribute myself, but there aren't that many Indonesia-Japan or Indonesia-anime links I can think of. I can at least help out in reviewing if that's needed. We could also try something like the Philippines set where some of the topics are not even based in Indonesia but people or subjects abroad with an Indonesian connection. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 23:14, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, Jeromi. That was the other user I was thinking of. I think there are a few Indonesianists in Japan - I know I've dealt with a few - but I don't know if people like William Bradley Horton (Akita) or Kaoru Kochi (Kanda) meet the GNG/WP:PROF. I think between three, maybe four, editors there would be enough to get some variety. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 23:19, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I can chip in a couple DYKs, likely one related to a politician and another on a general topic/location (I have several in mind). Jeromi Mikhael usually does foreign relations (diplomats). Maybe I can try expanding a language or some other non-BLP things. Juxlos (talk) 01:02, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Juxlos and Crisco 1492: Hi, thanks for the heads up, count me in for the special occasion. I have some DYKs that haven't been prepped yet so I think some of them could go for this occasion. Regarding non biographies, best I could offer is on bilateral relations and/or embassies. If you have any interesting undeveloped articles that I could expand feel free to inform me. Regards, Jeromi Mikhael 01:50, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I can definitely get a painting and a film done in two months. Might have enough to do a monument (there's one in Palu I remember visiting). I wish I were as familiar with Eastern Indonesia as I am with Java.
Narutolovehinata5, seems like we have the makings of a set here. Think this needs to go through WT:DYK? — Chris Woodrich (talk) 03:37, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely, though I would suggest waiting until at least June 17 (two months before) before suggesting it, both to wait for the Philippines set post-mortem and thus the set could learn from it, and also so that it would be within the two-month limit for SOHA requests. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 03:53, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Heads up, I've made nominations for Raijua (island) and Mandai (food). Just to keep track for when someone makes the WT:DYK post. With how big the backlog at DYKN/A is at the moment I wonder if 12-hour sets are possible. Juxlos (talk) 04:55, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Bupatis/Mayors

[edit]

Hi Crisco 1492.

Yesterday, one of Wikipedia administrators created AFD for Annisa Suci Ramdhani ,the current Regent of Dharmasraya Regency, since she allegedly did not qualify to fulfill the requirement of WP:NSUBPOL. The discussion is still ongoing. This AfD caused Juxlos created the topic discussion of the notability of bupatis/mayors. As an user who has created many Indonesian-related topic articles, can you give your feedback and comment whether bupatis/mayors are notable enough or not for WP:NSUBPOL? Quirky hook last

[edit]

Thanks for promoting Template:Did you know nominations/Vieux-Comptoir. The hook is deliberately quirky, so per WP:QUIRKY, it is meant to be in the last slot. But currently it isn't. Can you please adjust this? Thanks again. -- P 1 9 9   20:23, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

  • I did not feel it was as "quirky" as the other hook in the set, and it relied on a grammatically misleading "an" to create an ambiguity that wasn't there. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 20:31, 16 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    • Most quirky hooks rely on some grammatical ambiguity to make them quirky! In this case, the hook played on the fact that factory can also refer to a trading post. By removing "an", it now only refers to the English place name, and you made the hook boring, no longer quirky at all. This is not what was discussed and agreed to in the DYK discussion. Please restore the indefinite article and put it in the last slot of another prep area. Thanks. -- P 1 9 9   02:37, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
      • Yes, and "an" is not standard grammar for a place name, which is deliberately misleading. The previous format would have received error reports, and was in violation of our guidelines for accuracy. If you wish to contest the indefinite article, please go to WT:DYK.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 10:43, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
      • For the sake of transparency, as well as establishing a broader consensus, I have moved the discussion to WT:"DYK. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 10:56, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
