Wikipedia:Requests for history merge

This page is used for listing requests for history merges or history splitting of pages. For relatively simple cases where history merge is required, the destination page should be tagged with the {{history merge}} template. This page should be used for requesting very complex merges, merges involving more than two pages, history merges of deleted pages, or when the use of the template is otherwise inadequate or where its usage would cause problems.

This page was originally for listing cut-and-paste moves which could not be repaired due to a then-extant technical limitation. The limitation has since been removed, but this page is still available if you find a cut-and-paste move, and are not able to repair it yourself (there is a procedure for doing it, but only administrators can do it, and it is a bit tricky!).

Administrators need to read Wikipedia:History merging § Repair process (for admins) and Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions.

The procedure

• If the issue is clear-cut (straight-forward cut-and-paste move(s) to a different title), place a {{history merge|NAME OF PAGE THE ARTICLE WAS CUT FROM}} template at the new location of the article which has been moved through cut and pasting, i.e. on the article where the pasting was done. This will place the request in Category:Candidates for history merging to be reviewed.
• In more complex cases (explained at Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves), please leave a description of the problem under the "Repair requests" section. An administrator will look over the pages and perform whatever tasks are necessary and update the request.
• Tasks that have been completed or do not need further discussion will be removed.

• Draft:2000 Reform National Convention is missing history of contribution of about half of text.

I stumbled on this situation, but have looked into it a bit. This is what I think happened:

3 April 2026 User:SecretName101 creates Draft:2000 Reform National Convention with 2 notes and 2 URLS

11 May 2026 (about) User:ImperatorAugustian creates mainspace 2000 Reform National Convention with about 15KB of text. A few other editors make small changes over time.

19 May 2026 to 19 June 2026 User:SecretName101 continues editing Draft, enlarging to about 15KB text.

8 June 2026 User:SecretName101 starts WP:Articles for deletion/2000 Reform National Convention

16 June: AfD closes with "merge to Draft:2000 Reform National Convention"

25 June 2026: user:FaviFake adds abt 13.8KB to the Draft, about doubling it, with edit summary: "(merged content from 2000 Reform National Convention as a result of an Articles for deletion discussion with consensus to merge. To read the AfD discussion, click the bolded link in the first yellow banner at the top of this article's talk page. See the source page's history for attribution. No new content was added, just reorganised, but the section may need cleanup.)".

27 June 2026 MPGuy2824 deletes mainspace 2000 Reform National Convention

So the result is that the Draft: says to see the deleted mainspace for attribution but that's not present, and if the Draft is accepted, will appear to circularly point to itself if indeed the Draft title becomes the article title (which as it stands also won't have the source of the pasted text). --R.
