MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist

Page contents not supported in other languages.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mediawiki:Spam-blacklist is meant to be used by the spam blacklist extension. Unlike the meta spam blacklist, this blacklist affects pages on the English Wikipedia only. Any administrator may edit the spam blacklist. See Wikipedia:Spam blacklist for more information about the spam blacklist.

    Instructions for editors

There are 4 sections for posting comments below. Please make comments in the appropriate section. These links take you to the appropriate section:

    1. Proposed additions
    2. Proposed removals
    3. Troubleshooting and problems
    4. Discussion

Each section has a message box with instructions. In addition, please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment.

Completed requests are archived. Additions and removals are logged, reasons for blacklisting can be found there.

Addition of the templates {{Link summary}} (for domains), {{IP summary}} (for IP editors) and {{User summary}} (for users with account) results in the COIBot reports to be refreshed. See User:COIBot for more information on the reports.

    Instructions for admins
Any admin unfamiliar with this page should probably read this first, thanks.
If in doubt, please leave a request and a spam-knowledgeable admin will follow-up.

Please consider using Special:BlockedExternalDomains instead, powered by the AbuseFilter extension. This is faster and more easily searchable, though only supports whole domains and not whitelisting.

    1. Does the site have any validity to the project?
    2. Have links been placed after warnings/blocks? Have other methods of control been exhausted? Would referring this to our anti-spam bot, XLinkBot be a more appropriate step? Is there a WikiProject Spam report? If so, a permanent link would be helpful.
    3. Please ensure all links have been removed from articles and discussion pages before blacklisting. (They do not have to be removed from user or user talk pages.)
    4. Make the entry at the bottom of the list (before the last line). Please do not do this unless you are familiar with regular expressions — the disruption that can be caused is substantial.
    5. Close the request entry on here using either {{done}} or {{not done}} as appropriate. The request should be left open for a week maybe as there will often be further related sites or an appeal in that time.
    6. Log the entry. Warning: if you do not log any entry you make on the blacklist, it may well be removed if someone appeals and no valid reasons can be found. To log the entry, you will need this number – 1360480473 after you have closed the request. See here for more info on logging.

Considering bot activities like Pferdeappfelhorter1and similar usernames appearing these days that I didn't remember, it's probably a good time to blocklist it and save our mop-wielders some time.
    Full URL just in case: Thimbletoys.com 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 10:38, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment) I've moved your request to the correct section and formatted it. Diffs are revdelled but from spamcheck it doesn't look like this has ever been added in a way that the blacklist would disallow? lp0 on fire () 15:10, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Update 1 |
Links above are copied from contributions of this bot (the username of which is racial slur written in Chinese). There's an additional link of a subdomain of <c>mail.ru</c>, pointing to preview of a film. Based on the URL I'm not sure if it's just a generic mail / content host. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 10:55, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@irisChronomia: I'm reasonably sure that's WP:LTA/SB1; there's usually no need to blacklist the links as their vandalbots just move on to spamming something else. lp0 on fire () 11:01, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Request to remove osome.com from blacklist

    [edit]

While working on a draft article about the company Osome, I noticed that links to osome.com are blocked by the spam blacklist. This made it difficult to include even basic references (such as the official website), which are typically expected in company-related articles.

The website belongs to a legitimate business services provider offering company incorporation and accounting services, along with a range of informational content. The blacklisting likely originates from earlier instances of link spamming rather than any inherent issue with the site itself. I checked the log history for all the years, but I have not found this domain anywhere.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Artem-lipatov (talkcontribs) 08:12, 28 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Artem-lipatov: You do not need live links for a draft, therefore here no Declined (also, declined because it is not here, it is globally blacklisted). If/when the draft is accepted, likely Defer to Whitelist for specific links on this domain. --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:22, 28 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Beetstra but how can I check whether the website is in global blacklist? Artem-lipatov (talk) 06:48, 28 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
    @Beetstra I have not found it here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Spam_blacklist Artem-lipatov (talk) 06:51, 28 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Artem-lipatov the blacklist rule is \bosome\.com\b on that list. In any case, here or on meta, delisting requests by editors with a conflict of interest are rarely considered. You can finish your draft and leave it for independent review (use non-working links where necessary for clarification of primary references) and if accepted the specific links can be whitelisted as described in the instructions on that page. Dirk Beetstra T C 07:03, 28 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Understood @Beetstra, thank you. Yes, I saw your welcome message with the instructions and understand that there might be a conflict of interest. I’ll wait until my account is more than 4 days old to get the rights to submit my draft for review, and will proceed then. Artem-lipatov (talk) 07:23, 28 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Artem-lipatov: your account doesn't need to be 4 days old to submit a draft for review; just put {{subst:submit}} at the top of the page. lp0 on fire () 09:00, 28 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: These sites are considered reliable per WP:NPPSG#India. When it comes to a reliable source regarding space industry of India, there is almost zero reliable sites, and it makes it extremely hard to provide sources to Indian space related articles. I urge the administrators to unblock them as soon as possible, because there's no alternatives of these sites. 𝙰𝚔𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚟™ 𝚃𝚊𝚕𝚔 05:51, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Not done, because there is nothing to do. None of those domains are on this blacklist. And they aren't listed on Special:CommunityConfiguration/BlockedDomain or on Meta:Spam-blacklist either. What prompted you to write this request? ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 06:05, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Anachronist: So why does it say 'this site is blocked' when I try to add a citation out of them (to an article)? 𝙰𝚔𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚟™ 𝚃𝚊𝚕𝚔 06:08, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly another site in the text you are submitting is blocked. What is the exact message you are seeing? https://indandexpress.com for example works just fine, as you can see I linked to it. ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 06:11, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Anachronist @Johnuniq "This site is blocked
This source is considered unreliable by our community, and therefore is not allowed. Please choose a different reliable source." That's what I see, when I try to cite them to an article. 𝙰𝚔𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚟™ 𝚃𝚊𝚕𝚔 06:17, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

There's the problem. Don't link to Google. Why would anyone need to do that? Link directly to https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/space-wrap-a-blockbuster-month-for-indias-private-sector/article71035894.ece/amp/ without the Google prefix. Don't copy links from google search results, go to the page being linked and then copy the link from your browser's address bar. ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 06:23, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
If you're using an AI, don't. Definitely don't copy its links either. Go to the actual sites being linked. ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 06:25, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and no, I don't use AI. Can't believe it was that simple. Again, thanks Anachronist! 𝙰𝚔𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚟™ 𝚃𝚊𝚕𝚔 06:43, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't accusing you of using AI, that was just an afterthought that I thought worth mentioning, because links generated by AI are sometimes hallucinated, so it's a good idea to check them always. ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) ~Anachronist (who / me) (talk) 15:51, 31 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Request to remove ecclegen.com from blacklist

    [edit]

The original blacklist report MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/December_2018#ecclegen.com has little detail and accuses an editor with over 90k edits who is unblocked as being a spammer. I wouldn't call it a reliable source itself but it was the only online source providing a full text version of a PD work that I would like to link to make it easier to verify. This could just be a whitelist request but I don't see the original blacklist decision being justifiable. Traumnovelle (talk) 03:17, 12 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Why is CorporateHistory.net blacklisted?

    [edit]

corporatehistory.net: Linksearch en (insource) - meta - de - fr - simple - wikt:en - wikt:frSpamcheckblacklist hitsMER-C X-wikigs • Reports: Links on en - COIBot - COIBot-Local • Discussions: tracked - advanced - RSN • COIBot-Link, Local, & XWiki Reports - Wikipedia: en - fr - de • Google: searchmeta • Domain: domaintoolsAboutUs.com I have now gone back and added all ISBN numbers and third-party sources after believing there are two many primary sources. However I can't test it because the site is blacklisted. Updated information was also added to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Marian_Calabro&action=submit where the company is mentioned but I can't update that either because of the site being blacklisted. Can you please advise? 14:02, 23 May 2026 (UTC)~

    Troubleshooting and problems

    [edit]

    Removal Problem

    [edit]

I ran into a strange error where I could not remove content from a section on my sandbox due to the presence of a blacklisted link in an entirely different section. To resolve the issue, I had to obfuscate the URL by replacing "." with "(dot)" so that the filter wouldn't be tripped. (Ironically, the link was missed when the site was blacklisted due to it explicitly only being removed in mainspace. This has to be one of the most loop hole-ly cases I've encountered.) –Noha307 (talk) 00:32, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The domain block list works on all namespaces. Just remove the links, or obfuscate them. You'll need to remove them for sure before attempting to move the draft material into articlespace.Sam Kuru (talk) 01:29, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Noha307 It looks like your page is close to the template limit (there are templates at the bottom that don't render), maybe/possibly the removal of a section removed enough templates to have the reference display or at least being rendered before saving resulting it to give a blacklist block (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Noha307/sandbox&oldid=1358318061#cite_note-127 BEFORE maiming does not render the reference, nor does the version after maiming; https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Noha307/sandbox&direction=next&oldid=1358320933#cite_note-127 AFTER removal of the section you intended to remove does render the reference).
Blacklisting does not disallow editing on pages where the link already is. Upon blacklisting we do have a priority to remove blacklisted links from mainspace/content namespaces (as they may disrupt editing / vandalism removal actions), but do not necessarily remove them from non-content spaces. Also in some cases we leave legitimate links (which optimally then should be whitelisted) and only remove the material that was actually spammed, and use blacklisting to stop further spamming. Dirk Beetstra T C 09:46, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Beetstra: Thanks, I appreciate the explanation. It actually makes a lot of sense as I was having trouble with other aspects of the page related to its size. Since I was able to successfully get around it, it didn't end up being a problem for me, but I wanted to mention it here in case it might help whomever maintains the extension close a loophole.
@Kuru: For what it's worth, although it didn't start that way, much of the content in my sandbox ended up being things that would never actually make it into an article on Wikipedia. I know that's really not what the sandbox should be for, so I've been trying to move it to my personal website, which also runs MediaWiki. It was during that process that I noticed the issue. Anyway, that's part of the reason I obfuscated the link, rather than removing it entirely. If the content should ever make it into an article, I will remove/replace the offending reference. –Noha307 (talk) 19:06, 8 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Noha307 you can always request whitelisting if that one link is needed/useful/reliable and difficult/impossible to replace (i.e. Defer to Whitelist). Dirk Beetstra T C 07:11, 9 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Whitelist request: shuftipro.com

    [edit]

Hello. I would like to request that the homepage of the domain shuftipro.com be whitelisted on the English Wikipedia spam blacklist — a narrow single-URL allowance, not a full domain removal. (I have written the domain without the http prefix so this request can be saved.)

Disclosure: I have a conflict of interest. I am connected to Shufti, the company that owns this domain, and I am posting on their behalf using a single, openly identified account. I will not add any links to the site myself.

Background: I understand the domain was blacklisted after repeated inappropriate link additions by accounts connected to the company in 2018–2020, and that a removal request in January 2020 was correctly declined because it was promotional in nature. That conduct was wrong and will not be repeated.

What I am asking for: I am not requesting the domain for citations or promotion. I am only asking that the official homepage be permitted as a standard official-site link, in the event a neutral, independently sourced article about the company is accepted through Articles for Creation. If the community prefers, please treat this as a narrow single-URL whitelist rather than a full de-listing.

I will follow all conflict-of-interest and external-link guidelines and will make any article edits through talk-page edit requests, not directly. Thank you for considering this.

    Muhammad Haris Alyharis (talk) 06:32, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Alyharis: no Declined, Defer to Whitelist for specific links on this domain. --Dirk Beetstra T C 07:18, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, thank you. I will take the specific-link request to the whitelist page once I have a draft accepted for review. Alyharis (talk) 08:03, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Alyharis We generally only whitelist at the point the article is accepted into mainspace. Until then it can be non-working links. Dirk Beetstra T C 08:23, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that's really helpful! I'll use non-working links in the draft for now and circle back once the article's accepted. Much appreciated. Alyharis (talk) 08:31, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
