TIL in 2012, South Korean activist Roh Su-hui made an unauthorised visit to North Korea to promote Korean unification. He was arrested by South Korean authorities as soon as he stepped back over the DMZ and was jailed for 4 years, which North Korean state media called a violation of human rights.
I could see there being a boom, certainly, when I think about humans and how they are. Idk about long-term though, it wouls probably depend on economic and social conditions after integration. Interesting to think about
You're absolutely on point about this being a tendency and it bums me out because a lot of people just buy these beautiful and delicate creatures only to neglect them to die from starvation, dehydration, or bad husbandry. I may or may not have once way overpaid for an emaciated Brazilian rainbow boa just to get it the fuck out of a trap house; brought it to my buddy who had been carefully researching and preparing for the species for at least half a decade. Idk sorry for the random anecdote, your comment is just sooooo accurate that it called up something akin to trauma lol.
From what I have seen of the NK guys who come here (I am in UA), it seems they have been told that if they are captured they will be executed, tortured, etc. I don't know how many N Koreans are going to be made aware of this arrangement with SK and make the decision to come here as a soldier, possibly actually engage in combat, and then surrender. We will see, though. This timeline is fuckin nuts man
It's mind-boggling how hard that is for some people. The first time I was ever "catcalled" (this grown man said explicitly what he wanted to do to me without warning, without prompting. Without any attention given to him) in public was when I was 9 years old. NINE YEARS OLD. Blows my mind almost three decades later that somone would even have those thoughts about a child, much less SAY them to the child. I wish there had been a normal adult nearby.
