Hi. I have been watching your contributions on the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in Turkey. Unfortunately, the map that you're trying to add is not official, and no governmental sources have reported on the specific locations in which confirmed cases have been found. Thus, refrain from adding that image again; otherwise I'll have to ask the administrators to protect the page due to vandalism. Keivan.fTalk 19:44, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Contentious topic notice: Syrian Civil War

[edit]
This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Syrian Civil War and ISIL. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

September 2025

[edit]

Information icon Hello! Thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, and in particular for adding references! However, adding a bare URL is not ideal, and exposes the reference to link rot. It is preferable to use proper citation templates when citing sources, including details such as title, author, date, and any other information necessary for a bibliographic citation. Here's an example of a full citation using the {{cite web}} template to cite a web page:

Lorem ipsum<ref>{{cite web |title=Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac |publisher=Canon Inc |work=Ask a Question |date=2022 |url=https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART174839 |access-date=2022-04-02}}</ref> dolor sit amet.

which displays inline in the running text of the article as:

Lorem ipsum[1] dolor sit amet.

and displays under References as:

  1. ^ Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac". Ask a Question. Canon Inc. 2022. Retrieved 2022-04-02.

If you've already added one or more bare URLs to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations: try the Citer tool, or in the wikitext editor, try the reFill tool, and in the Visual Editor, the reference dialog can convert some bare urls into a full citation. Once again, thanks for adding references to articles. Danners430 tweaks made 18:53, 4 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Danners430, the source of Istanbul Airport's statistics is the General Directorate of State Airports Authority, which states them monthly on its official website. [2] The page is trusted by official authorities. Eray08yigit (talk) 21:22, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In addition, the statistics are cited as sources on the page Eray08yigit (talk) 21:24, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Those sources are dated 2023 and 2024 - so how exactly can they source something from August this year? Danners430 tweaks made 21:26, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The years are indicated above the "yük/freight" section, and the English source includes all statistics up to 2019, while the Turkish source includes statistics up to 2008. The 2025 source also includes statistics up to August. We can specify the source from the part that says "yolcu/passenger" Eray08yigit (talk) 21:53, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There's only three sources in the Statistics section as of right now, and two are dated 2023 (305, 306) while the third is dated 2024 (307). So I have no idea which source you're referring to. Danners430 tweaks made 22:00, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if the link I provided shows it differently depending on the country because all statistics are available until August 2025. Eray08yigit (talk) 22:09, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I haven’t looked at the link you’ve provided above, I’ve been looking at the sources already in the article, as you said they’re what you’ve been using. But if you look at the sources in the article, they have dates on them of 2023 or 2024. If those are indeed the sources you’re using and they’ve been updated since they were added then the obvious thing to do it change the dates - otherwise how do we know that they’ve been updated.
