PRODs
Hello, Bri,
For some recently tagged articles, you somehow merged BLPPROD tags with PROD tags. These are two very different forms of deletion and the current merger is confusing for a reviewer to assess. It would have been simpler if they had all just been regular PROD taggings. And, for example, the tags don't include the username of the tagger as is typical.
So I'm going to leave them for another admin to try to sort out. If, in the future, you could just choose one form of PROD, either an BLPPROD tag or a regular PROD tag, it would be much more straight-forward for the admin who needs to evaluate them. Just use Twinkle to select one form of PROD instead of creating original forms of tagging. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 20:18, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Liz: Sorry for the trouble. I don't use Twinkle, I just place the templates by hand and manually log at User:Bri/PROD. Thought that it was a good idea to use BLPPROD where it seems justified. I.e. applying BLPPROD only where no references exist, per the documentation. Some BLPs don't satisfy this requirement, so I use PROD instead.
- Based on your description above of "merged" I'm not sure what is wrong; if you could provide a diff maybe I would understand better. ☆ Bri (talk) 22:58, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

MOS:NONSOVEREIGN and MOS:FLAGRELEVANCE
Per MOS:NONSOVEREIGN and MOS:FLAG RELEVANCE, requesting relevant use of Puerto Rico’s flag in a sporting or beauty contest where the American territory competes separately & independently (sovereign) from USA since 1948.
MOS:NONSOVEREIGN supports the use of sub-national flags as “exception[s] in sporting contexts“, which would naturally extend to beauty pageants.
MOS:FLAGRELEVANCE approves use of sub-national flags when it is “directly relevant to the article”, which applies here considering that in the beauty competition the candidate of “Puerto Rico” represents “Puerto Rico”, wears the band of “Puerto Rico”, and performs in front of the projected “flag of Puerto Rico”.
This further satisfies MOS:FLAGRELEVANCE, as it has made the flag easily “recognizable by the general public” throughout the history of major international beauty contests in which Puerto Rico has continuously participated since 1952 with great success.
The candidate from Puerto Rico does not carry the name nor the flag of the USA during the competition, as that is the responsibility of the candidate in the competition directly representing the “USA” or the “United States of America”.
Like in the Olympics, the USA and PR athletes/candidates are considered separate and independent from each other, which is why the USA team wears and performs under the American flag and the Puerto Rico team wears and performs under the Puerto Rican flag. Tektonson (talk) 22:09, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Tektonson: I think this should be discussed at the MOS talkpage. I initiated a discussion there in 2022, where I felt there was either support for no flags in pageant articles, or adherence to NONSOVEREIGN, my interpretation of which is PR is not sovereign and would be covered by the US flag. Would you like to start it? ☆ Bri (talk) 22:13, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
The case is clear to me, but a discussion would help!
The case is clear to me, but absolutely, there should be a discussion because it is profoundly misleading and confusing to have a separate and independent candidate in a beauty pageant registered as “Puerto Rico” representing “Puerto Rico” with the “flag of Puerto Rico”, and not reflect that on the wiki page of the pageant. She is not representing the “USA” with the “flag of USA”, as that duty falls on the separate and independent candidate registered as “USA” in the pageant. Tektonson (talk) 22:33, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
- I am a little confused. you removed the discussion that you started. do you intend to reopen it at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Icons? ☆ Bri (talk) 16:12, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
Yes!
Yes, will be adding shortly. Thanks Tektonson (talk) 20:56, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
Cases of Non-Sovereign Territories and Countries in Miss Universe
Although it is not a sporting event, there is a consensus on the use of flags of non-sovereign places in Miss Universe. The pageant rules are clear about this question: since for a territory to participate in the pageant it needs to have a local franchise. They are representing the territory, not the country that is sovereign. The candidate from the US Virgin Islands represents the US Virgin Islands, she needs to be a citizen of the territory she is representing.
I hope this is fully understood. Best Regrets...
Soldati.Guimarães (talk) 17:16, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
- No, I disagree. There should not be "local consensus" on pageant pages, you should take your case to the Manual of style talkpage. Pageant rules do not dictate how we present pages uniformly on this encyclopedia. ☆ Bri (talk) 23:47, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

ParserFunction error
This edit by you to Template:Signpost/Deadline seems to have introduced a ParserFunction error that is showing up in various pages transcluding Template:Signpost draft, causing about 150 pages to be added to Category:ParserFunction errors. Not being handy with templates, I have no idea what the problem is. Can you figure it out? Deor (talk) 15:19, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Deor: What almost certainly happened (as I saw it just now) is that it wasn't errorous when added -- it just became errorous a couple days later when the deadline elapsed, which made it overlap with some stuff in a weird way so as to cause a ÷0. I will try to fix this next time. jp×g🗯️ 16:06, 22 March 2025 (UTC)

Talk page banner for ghost town project at Walville, Washington
Hey Bri!
Good to see you still doing the unthankful tasks you're constantly forced to do!
Noticed the reversion of the WP:GTS banner from Walville, Washington and though it seems a good fit, I think maybe the full reversion was due to the now-banned editor's efforts? Wasn't even aware of the project page so wondering if you'd be against me adding the banner back in?
Thanks!

- You mean this revert of the long-term abuser? Yeah, we just undo their edits automatically per WP:DENY in the hope they get the clue they aren't wanted here and need to get a new hobby. Anyway, just put it back in. Shouldn't be a problem when the edit is made by a good-faith editor like you. ☆ Bri (talk) 15:23, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi Bri. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were pushing a POV by adding another Aaron Bandler article attributed to RealClearPolitics past the deadline last month. I should have just written more about the guy's history, but given that I'm not a regular Signpost contributor I didn't feel that I should mess around with it too much when at any moment the thing could be published. I hope that you'll forgive me for pointing out the lack of attribution for his articles in April and June (and January and February as it turns out), I guess I misunderstood the role you played at ITM, which I assumed was more one of selecting articles of note. Still can't edit that page!
Can you take a look at it? The conclusion needs to put "Congress" in for "you" 3 or 4 times. See if it copies here -
- Conclusion
It does look like Wikipedia has a problem with disinformation. And there are likely hundreds more articles every year that are affected by disinformation. So it’s not surprising that Congress wants to investigate the problem. But please remember that there are over 7 million articles on Wikipedia so that the articles with disinformation are still a very small fraction of the total. Editors here are very experienced at making articles NPOV.
If the congressional investigation of Wikipedia results in a way to decrease disinformation, it will be a victory for everybody. We could definitely use some help countering Chinese and Russian disinformation. Much of the rest we’re handling pretty well. But, many different types of people try to insert disinformation, using many different methods. We should try to understand and counter all of them. For example, the committee can help congresspeople and other politicians to follow our rules. They must not secretly edit articles about themselves. If they hire an editor to help them change an article, those paid editors must declare that they are paid and name their employers and clients. No exceptions!
I doubt that Wikipedia editors are going to change our rule on maintaining a neutral point of view. The government can openly provide documentation for its point of view to the whole community, but editors don’t have to accept that POV as being the whole truth. We want to show all widely held well documented POVs. Smallbones(smalltalk) 03:31, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
Club of Rome primary sources template
I have been editing the Club of Rome. I first noticed about 10 citation needed tags, and I've successfully addressed most of those. I then decided to turn my attention to the template warning about excessive reliance on primary sources. I see that you added that in 2016, along with the comment "13 of 21 citations are to CoR itself". I looked at the advice on how and when to remove this message and not surprisingly, it doesn't have a clear-cut numerical metric. I am in full agreement that 13 out of 21 qualifies for addition of the template.
While my counting method is not perfect, I did note that 15 references now have the phrase "website=club of Rome" as part of the reference. It's possible this is still an undercount but I don't think it misses too many. While that is up from the time you added the template, the total number of references is now 51. While 15 out of 51 is still a substantial proportion, I'm inclined to think that the template is no longer necessary. In one case I identified a claim supported by a club of Rome website source and found a reference outside of club of Rome but rather than do a replacement I included both. In other words, even searching diligently for non-CoR references is not likely to reduce the number of CoR references unless we deliberately remove CoR references when we find a non-CoR reference. I don't feel comfortable doing that.
I could simply remove the template but I think it's polite whenever removing a template to at least engage the editor added the original in case they have strong views about what it would take to justify removing it. What do you think? S Philbrick(Talk) 19:07, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the invitation to participate in editing that. It's been a long time since I thought about it! I think I agree, 15 out of 51 isn't a burning issue anymore. ☆ Bri (talk) 19:13, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
