Arun Thomas Mathew (born May 9, 1992), known professionally as The Rewynd,[1] is an Indian singer-songwriter and musician associated primarily with Pop music. Known for his distinctive vocal style, he initially built a following by officially releasing song covers anonymously on YouTube and other streaming platforms.
Mathew rose to prominence in India and internationally following the release of his hit single “Banging Heart,” which became his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked within the top ten of the charts in several countries. The song marked his emergence in the global pop music scene and achieved significant commercial success.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Arun Thomas Mathew was born on May 9, 1992, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kothamangalam, Kerala, to Mathew MK and Gracy Mathew. He was raised in Myloor, a suburb of Kothamangalam, along with his elder siblings, Anu and Bini. From a young age, Mathew showed a natural interest in music. During his school years, he took part in school anniversary celebrations and local events, taking the stage as a singer.
Mathew completed his schooling at St. George’s Higher Secondary School in Kothamangalam, Kerala. Following his secondary education, He pursued a bachelor of technology (B.Tech) degree in mechanical engineering from Mahatma Gandhi university He worked as a cybersecurity analyst at Wipro, before fully committing and entering to music industry.
Career

[edit]Mathew officially began his career by releasing an official cover of “Beat It,” originally performed by Michael Jackson. This release marked his first step into the public spotlight and helped establish his presence on YouTube and streaming platforms. Following the initial release, He subsequently went on to upload a series of covers featuring songs by artists he admired, quickly gaining widespread attention as his videos amassed millions of views. In March 2026, he released a cover of "I want it that way” originally performed by Backstreet boys. In July 2026, he followed up with “l don't wanna wait”, originally performed by Ryan tedder.
2026-present: Breakthrough with "Banging Heart"
[edit]In December 2026, Mathew signed a recording contract with Warner Records. Following his signing, Mathew began working on new material for his major-label debut. His breakthrough came when he released the single "Banging Heart” in 2026. The song became a commercial success and was his first song to reach the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at number 99 and peaking at number one in March 2026, which helped establish him as a rising talent in the music industry.
