Possible issue in lead
[edit]Specific examples of segregation among Native Americans, Asians, Latinos, Jewish, and Catholics alongside many other communities of color....
This excerpt from the third paragraph of the lead section seems to imply that catholics are a "community of color." How should this be addressed? Chess enjoyer (talk) 02:43, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
- "catholics are a "community of color."" Last I checked, the Roman Catholic Church has no rules against converting people of any ethnic background. The Great Commission is traditionally seen as an instruction or a direct order for Christians to "spread the gospel to all the nations of the world". Dimadick (talk) 04:31, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Dimadick Yes, this is the issue that I have with the current phrasing of the sentence in this article. Catholics are not an ethnic group, but the way that the above excerpt is worded implies that they are. I posted here because I wasn't sure how to fix it without it sounding clunky. perhaps the phrase "alongside other communities of color" should be removed entirely? - The targeting of Jews and Catholics (which is hardly rare for the United States) implies religious discrimination at work, alongside the ethnic discrimination. Dimadick (talk) 04:58, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Dimadick I am not trying to deny any of that. I am only trying to find a way to phrase the article that doesn't imply that catholics are a community of color the way that e.g. Asian Americans are. Chess enjoyer (talk) 05:13, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

Serious problems with article focus
[edit]To the best of my understanding, sundown towns were primarily aimed at excluding Black people. However, the way the article is currently written really obscures this. The first paragraph mentions non-whites and "colored people", the second paragraph is about history without any real mention of race, the third (and longest!) paragraph is about specific examples affecting other ethnic groups, and then, finally, only in the fourth and final paragraph do we finally talk about the impact on Black people.
The history section is primarily about Black Americans, but then the "Function" section doesn't mention them other than to say they "were not the only minority group" impacted!
I don't know if I really have the subject matter knowledge to be WP:BOLD and fix it myself, but I think the article needs some serious rewriting to make the impact on Black Americans the primary focus, with nods to the discrimination against other ethnicities added as more of an addendum. As the article is, it feels like it's either very off-topic or kind of whitewashed. G S Palmer (talk • contribs) 00:20, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
Sundown towns in pop culture
[edit]a new fears to fathom game just dropped (scratch creek) and the main characters get stranded in a sundown town. there's mutiple confederate flags shown and many racist comments from residents to/regarding one of the main characters who is not white. :| i don't have any sources other than the game itself ~2026-22152-16 (talk) 22:34, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
