This Wikipedia Entry uses text from the public signage at the temple produced by the City of Tokorozawa. According to [Copyright rules by territory (Japan)]:

  1. the Constitution and other laws and regulations;
  2. public notices, instructions, circular notices and the like issued by organs of the State or local public entities, incorporated administrative agencies ... or local incorporated administrative agencies ...;
  3. judgments, decisions, orders and decrees of courts, as well as rulings and judgments made by government agencies in proceedings of a quasi-judicial nature;
  4. translations and compilations prepared by organs of the State or local public entities, incorporated administrative agencies or local incorporated administrative agencies of [any of] the materials listed in the preceding three items.

Not all documents issued by national and/or local governments are considered as item 2 contents (for example, white papers are generally considered as copyrighted work), but article 32 paragraph 2 states:
Materials intended for public awareness by the government and other public bodies may be reprinted in newspapers, magazines, and other publications as explanatory material. However, this does not apply if there is a notice prohibiting such reprinting.
So the whole text written in the signage can be copied, unless there is some notice like 不許複製 or 無断複製を禁ず. K.F. (talk) 05:45, 31 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
