Merge proposal

The article Northern Bengali dialects substantially overlaps with the scope of North Central Bengali dialects, which is also referred to in linguistic literature as "Varendri dialects". In most linguistic classifications of Bengali dialects, the varieties described as Northern Bengali are treated as part of the Varendri/North Central Bengali dialect group spoken in the northern and north central regions of Bengal. As a result, both articles describe the same dialect cluster under different names. Keeping separate articles for the same dialect group leads to duplication of content and fragmentation of information. Therefore, the article Northern Bengali dialects should be merged into North Central Bengali dialects. Jacklincoln47 (talk) 18:32, 5 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
