Zhengzhou
[edit]I do remember previously Zhengzhou (with a population of '12,600,574 inhabitants, of whom 10,260,667 lived in its built-up (or metro) area made of 6 urban districts plus Zhongmu county, Xinzheng and Xingyang cities now largely being conurbated'.) It's also included in the navbox at the bottom of the page.
The article itself states that, by definition, Zhengzhou is a megacity because it passes that 10mil threshold of a metro area. The problem seems to be that all the sources under-report its population by almost half; or maybe they use a different method to evaluate the population.
Should I go ahead and add it back into the List of megacities or remove it from the navbox? This is a gigantic discrepancy GSMflux91 (✉ / 🖊) 23:41, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- @GSMflux91 Zhengzhou in sources is listed as: 6,860,000 by Demographia; 6,381,637 by OECD; 5,126,112 by EU GHSL; <5 mil. by United Nations. So no, there is no reason to add Zhengzhou and I'll remove it.
- As far as the cause of the disparities – some big Chinese cities moderately frequently have extremely wide boundaries that span widely through many rural regions; but they often don't have the necessary interconnected urban areas that are described in the relevant methodologies. If you want to, see some selected comparisons between largest total and urban areas here: List of largest cities by area. Respublik (talk) 22:40, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
Toronto
[edit]Toronto is a megacity... so I think I think it should be put on the list you know? What do you think? ~2026-30860-34 (talk) 14:44, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
Go look it up.
[edit]Look it up. Find a list of cities in Canada. These countries on this list have Megacities or regions with this much population: 🇧🇩🇦🇴🇦🇷🇧🇷🇨🇩🇨🇷🇨🇳🇨🇴🇬🇧🇫🇷🇩🇪🇪🇬🇯🇵🇰🇷🇮🇷🇵🇰🇵🇭🇳🇬🇵🇪🇮🇳🇮🇩🇲🇽🇻🇳🇿🇦🇺🇸🇹🇷🇷🇺 All except for... 🇨🇦 so what I am asking is for you to look at Toronto's metro Population. please...? ~2026-30860-34 (talk) 14:56, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
- Toronto has 11.2 million people in it's metro. ~2026-30860-34 (talk) 14:58, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
Chengdu
[edit]Is there a reason Chengdu, which has a population of 20 million, isn’t included in the list? Most sources list it as a megacity. ZKALE (talk) 13:38, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
- Refer to the above answer about Zhengzhou or even better just read the relevant methodologies of the provided sources. It is extensively explained what is and isn't counted and why. Respublik (talk) 12:38, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
