Electoral symbol

[edit]

The History section reads: The "Old Congress" retained the party symbol of a pair of bullocks carrying a yoke while Indira's breakaway faction was given a new symbol of a cow with a suckling calf by the Election Commission as the party election symbol. However, the Old Congress and other related election articles, the symbol shown differs from what is claimed here. 456legendtalk 20:38, 24 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that "centre-left" should be added, therefore making the position "centre to centre-left"

[edit]

Here are the sources backing it:

  1. "Indian National Congress is generally regarded as a populist, center-left party, although an INC-led government presided over significant economic liberalization in the early 1990s. Rajiv Gandhi's widow, Sonia, is a top-ranking INC strategist, and their son, Rahul, served as party president from 2017 to 2022; he now formally leads the Lok Sabha opposition. The INDIA coalition-leading INC won 99 Lok Sabha seats with 21% of the 2024 vote."
  2. "The Indian National Congress was founded in 1885 during the British Raj in India ... There have been seven prime ministers from this center-left, social liberal party."
  3. "The Indian National Congress abeviated INC and commonly known as the Congress is one of the two major political parties in India. ... The party`s modern liberal platform is largely considered to be on the Centre left of the Indian political spectrum."
  4. "The Indian National Congress (INC) is one of the major political parties in India, characterized as a center-left entity that advocates for democratic socialist principles."
  5. "- Indian National Congress (INC): centre to centre-left, big tent party, social democratic, secular; a major party involved in the independence movement; heads the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance opposition coalition"
  6. "... the Indian People's Party (BJP) – came to the fore and took its place next to the traditional centre-left Indian National Congress."
  7. "... and the simultaneous decline in the electoral strength of the parties on the centre-left, including that of the Congress, created the conditions for the party to now shed its centrist position and move towards a more left-leaning position on multiple issues."
  8. "- Indian National Congress (INC): centre to centre-left, big tent party, social democratic, secular; a major party involved in the independence movement; heads the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance opposition coalition"
  9. "Centre-left"

It would be WP:UNDUE if we didn't do so in my personal opinion. GuesanLoyalist (talk) 10:10, 27 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
