"State party"

The expression "state party" for the Liberal Democrats in England sounds odd in a British context: the UK is generally considered to be four nations (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) in one state (the United Kingdom) rather than four states – in the American sense – in one nation. But presumably "state party" is, despite this, the expression used in the Liberal Democrats' constitution. Article 2.1 of the federal party constitution uses the term "state parties":

"The Party shall be a federation constituted by the Scottish Liberal Democrats, the Welsh Liberal Democrats/Democratiaid Rhyddfrydol Cymru and the Liberal Democrats in England (the State Parties)"
