This article has been revised as part of the large-scale clean-up project of a massive copyright infringement on Wikipedia. Earlier text must not be restored, unless it can be verified to be free of infringement. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions must be deleted. Contributors may use sources as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences or phrases. Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously.

For more information on this situation, which involved a single contributor liberally copying material from print and internet sources into several thousand articles, please see the two administrators' noticeboard discussions of the matter, here and here, as well as the the cleanup task force subpage. Thank you. --Geronimo20 (talk) 09:07, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move page

[edit]

@Giantflightlessbirds I note that you said this should be moved in one of your commits. I agree. I can start that process, which I think involves making a new Wikidata item and a page for Chelaner. Is there something else I am missing for how to do that? Richlitt (talk) 22:30, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for doing that! I've now moved the article and changed to the updated name throughout. I'll now check wikidata to make sure the new combination is pointing to this article. — Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 00:26, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct.
  • [...] is a species of ant found in New Zealand - it would be better if it stated weather it's endemic or native... in this case, endemic.
    • And the other islands it is present in... for example, the one in French Polynesia
      • Added above comments.
  • mataimataī (common spelling)
    • Fixed.
  • One study examined the venom chemistry of various populations and found that there was notably variability in the structure of the venom. - 'notably' sounds awkward here to my mind
    • Removed notably
  • [...] to New Zealand where it is widespread [...] - comma
    • Added
  • The ants distribution also overlaps very little with Prolasius advenus - I presume you meant "ant's"
    • Fixed.
  • If its built in the ground, it is often under a stone or logs from trees such as [...] maybe If they are built in the ground, they are often under stones or logs from trees, such as, [...]
    • I went with your wording
  • [...] although more research [...] 'further' sounds better to my mind
    • Agreed.
  • Morphology (biology) and Stewart Island can be linked
    • Linked.
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.
  • avoid using contractions in Wikipedia articles (MOS:CONTRACTION)
    • Removed all I could find
  • Linking New Zealand is an overlink (MOS:OVERLINK)
    • Removed link,
2. Verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
  • Yes
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
  • most of the sources are peer-reviewed articles or research papers. there are some older sources and a source from a taxonomic database. overall, I think the question of the reliability of sources don't need oversight.
2c. it contains no original research.
  • the common name of Linepithema humile is listed in the lede, but not the first instance in the body.
    • Fixed.
  • also, in the lede it says "very widespread", but the body doesn't mention "very"
    • Fixed.
  • Spotchecks:

2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism.
  • nothing of concern
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
  • Yes
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  • Yes
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  • Yes
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  • the article is stable with no ongoing edit wars
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content.
  • File:Southern Ant, Scorching Bay, Wellington, New Zealand imported from iNaturalist photo 1301982.jpg CC BY-SA checkY
  • File:Monomorium antarcticum casent0172354 head 1.jpg - the website lists that content on their website is copyrighted and also CC BY. I think the coypyright status of this image is dubious
    • Removed image.
  • File:Southern Ant, Otaki Beach to Waikawa Beach, Kapiti Coast, Wellington, North Island, New Zealand imported from iNaturalist photo 361824662.jpg CC-BY checkY
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
  • I would suggest making the caption of the image in the infobox more informative. I think the others are fine.
7. Overall assessment.
