new june heatwave

[edit]

many weather forecasters, including official ones, are suggesting a new heatwave is on the way at the weekend for many parts of the uk. if that does end up coming true, we should perhaps consider moving this page to a new title along the lines of '2026 uk heatwaves', (most of) this article being merged into a section explaining a june heatwave, though that might not be for another week or two... quick update: the new heatwave is coming fast! some residents are reporting that temperatures could reach 40 or 41°c in their areas, which should indeed merit a full wikipedia article describing a possible new national temperature record, not just for june, but for the whole year... WP:SNOWCLOSEd as move to 2026 United Kingdom heatwaves - although I think the snowball would have more chance in hell than in this weather... Morwen (talk) 14:24, 25 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

May 2026 United Kingdom heatwave2026 United Kingdom heatwaves – This was the original name of this article, and we should revert to that as another heatwave has been announced by the Met Office. GarethBaloney (talk) 10:40, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Harrz as you said on your talk page: "if there are more heatwaves later in the year then the May page will be moved to that one." GarethBaloney (talk) 10:42, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Support - need to be like 2026 European heatwaves, and if there are more heatwaves, we can discuss that when the time comes. MrCryptoNerd (talk) 13:08, 22 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Support: Yep, as expected there's another one! And it's looking like it'll smash several records like the last. harrz talk 12:15, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

jersey

[edit]

why is this article giving Jersey temperatures? Jersey isn't part of the United Kingdom and none of the sources I can find are treating it as if it were, e.g. The UK experienced its hottest June day on record on Thursday as temperatures hit 36.4C in Somerset. from [1] ? heatwave definition

[edit]

There are different definitions. ONE is closer to a temperature anomaly - https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/uk-temperature-rainfall-and-sunshine-anomaly-graphs shows that all months of 2026 show a temperature anomaly in the UK. HERE it seems a UK Met Office definition is beingt used that is ONLY for Summer Heatwaves based on average summer temperatures from the last 20-year period. This is misleading. ~2026-36943-94 (talk) 16:08, 26 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
