Haiwaan (lit. 'Beast') is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language crime thriller film co-written and directed by Priyadarshan, and produced under KVN Productions and Thespian Films. It is an official remake of the 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, and stars Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Saiyami Kher, Asrani and Shriya Pilgaonkar.
The film was officially announced in July 2025.[1] It marks Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan's on-screen reunion after a long time following Tashan (2008). Principal photography commenced in August 2025 and concluded by December 2025.

Production

[edit]Pre-production began in May 2025.[3] The film's title was revealed as Haiwaan.[4] The film was announced in July 2025, an remake of the 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan.[5]
Casting
[edit]In April 2025, it was reported that Saif Ali Khan would appear in the film.[6] In May 2025, it was reported that Akshay Kumar would join the cast.[7] In August 2025, Asrani, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Saiyami Kher joined the cast.[8][9][10] Mohanlal, who played the lead in the original film, was confirmed to make a cameo appearance.[11] In December 2025, Jisshu Sengupta was confirmed to have joined the cast.[12]
Filming
[edit]Principal photography began in August 2025 in Kochi, Kerala, with scenes filmed in the Panampilly Nagar area.[13] Production subsequently moved to Vagamon and Ooty, which was completed within the same month.[14]
In mid-October, the unit returned to Mumbai for the final schedule.[15] Portions of the film were shot at several locations, including Churchgate railway station, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Bandra Kurla Complex and Alibaug.[16][17]
Asrani completed filming before his death.[18] Mohanlal filmed a cameo appearance,[19] while Shriya Pilgaonkar announced that she had completed filming her portions.[20]
The film was shot extensively in multiple locations including Kochi, Vagamon, Ooty and Mumbai.[21] Filming wrapped in December 2025 at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.[22]

[edit]In a pre-release deal, Sony Pictures Networks acquired the post-theatrical digital and satellite rights[23] of the film for ₹80 crore.[24] The company also acquired the film's music rights under the banner Sony Music India as part of the same agreement.[24]
