I must be playing a different game to you then. Counter play isn’t meta? Feel like I come up against that 8/10 times in elite and WL.
I agree with you on the “fidget” spinning and strikers having passing playstyles part but even then it’s just so people can play through balls no? And as for lengthy, it’s been essential since its introduction. Remember taller strikers being much more useful in FIFA 23? It was especially notable during shapeshifters. Same goes for FC 24 and 25.
So I really don’t think that the meta has changed all that much in the last few years apart from the “fidget” spinning since dribbling was improved.
“As a defender it is a FULLY MANUAL activation and requires placing yourself at the correct angle at the correct time.”
How does it display any skill if you can just spam X to get it to activate? And no it does not require placing yourself at the “correct angle” and it certainly does not have to be at the “correct time.”
Countless times in games now do I find myself actively running away from a defender to avoid this bruiser spam. There is no consequence for even missing a bruiser animation as even if you manage to get past them, they just catch up instantly or here comes the next defender where he does the exact same thing.
Too many times in games do I see that my opponent will spam bruiser - even with their own forwards - from behind my player (some of which I’ve even given press proven), assault him and then get the ball with no foul given.
Coupled with the fact that team press and offside trap spam makes the already clueless Attacking AI even more stagnant and stupid, it certainly does not require much skill.
