I love Lodoss's vibe but I wouldn't discount Frieren's artstyle so quick just because it's more modern imo

Lots of really cool distinct character designs, and Frieren is pretty much instantly iconic in her own right

Plus the anime has downright incredible color design, every color perfectly chosen imo

Yeah it's just a real common thing with manga adaptations in general- the story is always meant to continue next week/ month. Anime seasons have to have much more final beginning/ end points
