The hugs! The hugs, the non‑hugs, the trust‑falls, and Jane asking (more than once) "Do you trust me?" – with Lisbon calmly replying “Not 100%".
I adore the awkward first‑meeting hug where Jane thanks her and Lisbon looks surprised but accomodates him. And that early‑season‑2 moment where he gets cocky, she threatens to kick him out, he apologises for real, and they end up in this sweet, slightly stiff hug where Jane is the more relaxed one.
Funniest of all: Lisbon’s mad, Jane demands a hug, she refuses because he doesn’t mean it, and he’s offended – "I know I don’t mean it, but you don’t!" Then they walk off together, bickering but perfectly in step.
If The Mentalist could be measured in a timeline of hugs, the peak for me is the reunion after they’ve been apart for two years. That hug is absolute chef’s‑kiss perfection – both of them fully invested, arms wrapped around each other tight, eyes closed, all the feelings, neither wanting to let go. 🫂
The moment when Jane gets a bit panicky, shouting for a bottle of water, then jumps straight into the ambulance so he can try to wipe the blood off Lisbon’s face while she’s unconscious.
And then at the hospital, he’s clearly been there all night, just waiting, and he stays until she wakes up so he can reassure and comfort her.
I love soft Jane energy.
