I know this is the post for the theatrical release, while I only just now watched the movie at home, but there's no other post for this movie, so I'll have to say this here.

Because oh my god. The openings for seasons 1 & 2 were foreshadowing this movie this entire time. Season 1's OP having them wearing those tracksuits and helmets, battling some monster, and holding hands in the sky. Season 2's OP having them wearing those same outfits, flying in air crafts, and them riding hot air balloons. Of course, some details are different as to not give it away.

So, I'm guessing the point of having the side tangent earlier this season with Rimuru, Milim, Veldora and Ramiris having fun with artificial souls was probably for it to be a set-up for getting back "Gaia" this episode.

Okay I see. I considered that possibility but ended up deciding to just take your word for it
