You sound in such a better place now than I am sure you were then. It’s so much pain for a person to go through. There really isn’t anything someone who hasn’t experienced it can say to make it better. I appreciate you sharing so I and others can learn to see things we have very likely been unable or refused to see in the past. It is not something you are required to do, and I appreciate it.
My dad was planning a trip to Mexico to some unsafe areas to visit his pathway program buddies. I just mentioned, “aren’t you afraid of the cartels?” He said, “well, they have their agency. They are making choices. It’s like how you are also making choices these days. Both of you are making choices contrary to the gospel.” Also when I told him I was finished with the church his first words were, “well, I’m still going to pray for you,” in a so there tone. I was taken aback at his prayer threat? 🤷♀️
My brother said, “but you still believe the BOM is true right? I mean there is no way you don’t believe that!” 🤦🏼♀️
I feel like the pressure on girls to serve is really increasing. It kind of blows my mind. Before we left both of my teenage daughters were being heavily encouraged to attend mission preparatory classes, even though both repeatedly stated they didn’t want to go. It was like that didn’t matter. I do feel like this is likely church directed as they try to increase the numbers as fewer young men are willing to serve these days.
I have no problem paying more into SS and raising the cap. However, It doesn’t really do anything about the ultra wealthy avoiding paying into the system. It’s why we should tax wealth more than or instead of taxing work. Many of the richest people in America purposely avoid receiving wages so they can avoid taxes.
That is so awful. I have a family member who is homosexual, but their TBM parents are not being supportive. They are currently in high school, so I’ve been very concerned about what is going to happen with regard to a mission. I believe they could face a lot of pressure to serve to keep up appearances for the family. I feel very helpless because we have been denied direct contact with this person, and can only find out anything or express anything through their parents. Your reply confirms some of my fears. I’m so sorry for the self-hatred you were taught and I hope that you realize you are wonderful just as you are. I wish you all the happiness in the world.
Did you realize when you went on your mission that you were homosexual? If so, did you feel like you were able to hide that from your companions? If they knew, how did they treat you? As a homosexual person, what did the plan of salvation feel like to you? How did you finally come to see that the church is wrong, and you being who you are isn’t? If any of my questions bother you or are too personal, please just ignore them.
