We did this too. We are retired, moved into a condo, and all the kids moved out. For about 6 months our basset just moped around and slept a lot. We thought for the longest time that she just needed to adjust to our new schedule but it didn’t happen. We finally looked for a friend and found a rescue, Bassett/Shih Tzu mix. Within two weeks, she’s back to her old self helping to raise this little angel. It’s so funny - the looks my basset gives me when the puppy does something as a stinker. Like “eye-roll” “whatever”.
First of all, you are welcome here. We can and will support you in a healthy way.
Second, Mormon’s are a manipulative, abusive cult and members think emotional abuse is normal behavior. But when it’s bad, like you are describing, most do not have the language, empathy, or bandwidth to recognize, report or sympathize. And if you find one that does, they will go to the bishop and it will be discounted and hidden.
I’m so sorry you were subjected to this. A lot of us are trying to work through the trauma of a Mormon upbringing. We are helping each other and the people here are so supportive and lovely.
I’m hoping you can find a therapist to help you work through this. I haven’t had near the trauma you have endured but I have found therapy has helped so much! Also, try to find a friend community with your specific talents and morals for a good support group through your life.
I am sending you light and love.
