Pitted
Looking for advice on my upcoming surf trip, I work seasonally and I’m headed on a trip September 1st and aim to come back mid-late November. I’ll be traveling with just my girlfriend who doesn’t really surf but is interested in it, I’m an advanced goofy foot surfer.
We are from the east coast and have done fair share of Central America/Carribean, and some time in Portugal but looking to check out the southern hemisphere since I’ve never been.
Our original plan is to head to Bali, specifically Uluwatu to begin, then a little bit of Canggu and Ubud, hoping to get to Keramas for a day or 2 or 3.
I’ve done the research and it seems like Bali just gets a terrible rep, while we aren’t fully time committed as we got a one I really want to get some fun waves there and experience some cool things but wow is there some horror stories…. We are pretty committed to at least starting here whether we stay long or not. I’m a bit worried about the craziness of the moped crashes and getting my feet thrashed by the reef but I see so many clips of even kooks surfing at uluwatu and all around the top spots.
Then we are hoping to head to the ments as we got lucky and have a hookup for a discounted stay at a solid camp. Otherwise definitely wanna check out Lombok as the waves look way more playful and rippable rather than down the line shallow freight trains.
Then onto Australia where we will fly into Sydney and work our way up as far as the Sunshine Coast then hang out all around for a few weeks. Then a quick week in Japan on the way back home, might even ship my boards home as at that point I don’t think I’ll chase waves in Japan and seems a bummer to lug the boardbag.
If you had a chance to travel to that general zone, what would you do and what general advice can you give me about these places? Pretty generic itinerary I know but we have some media stays with our jobs that rlly help make it affordable. Thanks
