Be civil.

This one's obvious. Respect others opinions, don't act like a jerk, and refrain from trying to start arguments. Bigotry is also not tolerated, and will result in an instant ban.

Include high quality images.

Keep the sub appealing to look at. There is leniency for old designs and art that simply doesn't have high quality images, please message the mods if you have any questions.

Add an explanation as to why it belongs on the sub.

Character design posts (not including trope posts) must include an explanation in the post description or in the comments as to why the design is good or bad. You have 30 minutes from posting to include this explanation. If you provide your explanation as a comment, it MUST be posted in response to the pinned automod comment on your post. Descriptions that are vague, low effort, or not focused on design are also liable for removal.

Try to post at least one official image. Make sure to credit artists if posting Fanart

Fan art can be included but not as the only image. Make sure to apply proper credit to the artist as well.

NSFW posts must be labeled as such.

No pornographic content.

No AI Generated Content

AI generated content (image, text or otherwise) is not permitted in the sub.

<Hated Design> must be in the title when using the hated design flair.

Posts most include more than one image.

Low effort posts that are a single image will be removed (exemptions are made if there’s only one image of the design), this will only apply to character posts, discussion and meta posts will permitted to be a single image.

Design Tropes can only be posted on Sundays. (UTC time)

Design trope posts can only be made on Sunday (UTC time). You can make trope posts anytime in r/topcharactertropes.

No self promotion.

Any original characters/designs are better posted in r/characterdesigns or some similar subreddit. This sub is for the discussion and appreciation of characters made by other people. Please do not advertise your own designs/works here.

Name and origin are mandatory in the post title.

The name of the subject must be disclosed in the title; in cases where there is more than one subject, you still have to include the series of origin. If posting about multiple characters, the names of all characters need to be included somewhere in the post.

Posts must explicitly be about a visual design.

Posts must revolve around entities that are deliberately designed by people. Posts about pets and real life people are not permitted.

This is not limited to purely characters, and can include anything that underwent a design process such as weapons or locations.

<Hated Design> may not be used to disparage the appearance of real-life people.

If you dislike a character's design that's one thing, but don't make a thinly veiled post about physical traits you don't like from live action characters.
