As the title says, this happened to my Pixel 9 Pro Fold.I've never bent it backward, maybe just a couple of quick jolts? I'm not sure if it's because of the case either. It's kind of annoying, even though it's still working fine for now. But I'm worried that the internal components might break and cause damage to the phone
After years of frequent use and almost zero problems, my 2023 Pixel Fold suddenly found itself in an infinite boot loop. Even after factory reset, it could just not turn over into the OS. Fortunately I had a protection plan and I'm getting reimbursed for the price I bought it at in 2024 (~$800 USD). I'm seeing online some sellers selling the same model refurbished for ~$500 USD. So the question is, buy it again or upgrade?
The fold is my favorite phone I've ever owned. The problems I've had with it are minor, I didn't care about the refresh rate, everything was snappy. I loved the passport design of the OG fold, even though it weighed a ton and probably contributed to me developing some carpal issues. I don't like how long the new Pixel Pro Fold line is in single screen mode, though that might be just resistance to change.
However, if I were to get the same phone again I know I would be buying a phone that has a definitive shelf life for updates. Secondly, I'm really starting to hate Google's push of AI telemetry into everything and have been somewhat considering switching to GrapheneOS, a Pixel-exclusive OS. With those two factors, that might push me towards a Pixel Pro Fold.
I primarily use my phone for reading, light gaming, and occasionally for telehealth appointments for work. Dual screens have been very valuable for things like taking notes or for the gym. I'm pretty married to foldables right now since my car does not have a GPS and I hate how small GPS is on single screens.
What do you think reddit? Should I upgrade or shall I stay with what's familiar? Or shall I venture outside of Pixel and see if the grass is greener?
