Do not just say names and leave them standing there like two phones with no signal.

Say one useful line for each person.

e.g. Sarah works in marketing, and Alex just started an online store.

Now they have a door to open instead of pretending the weather is a full personality.

It takes five seconds, but it makes you look warm, thoughtful, and socially awake.

Most, if not all cell phones allow you to create shortcuts so you only have to type in a few characters instead of typing the whole thing out.

For example my shortcut is *em2* instead of typing out “first.middle.” (it’s 2 because I used to have another email address that I used more but then I lost access to it and never bothered to update the shortcut)
