Revisiting #28 "Table without correct end" false positives

[edit]

The check that was added to catch "table end tag templates that are not on a newline" reports some false positives because some templates have the preceding newline included in the template. ie. {{End}} via this edit and redirects to it such as {{Election box end}}.

I have added a special code to the translation pages to indicate that a template has the preceding newline in it. The code placed after the template name is @@HasNewline@@

Example usage: {{Election box end @@HasNewline@@ in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Check_Wikipedia/Translation search for: error_028_templates_enwiki

Original request: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Check Wikipedia/Archive 9#S-end without a newline before it

The enwiki translation page has been updated. Other wikis can also use the special code for error 28 on their translation pages. --Bamyers99 (talk) 21:11, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wonder if the same can be done for the soccer/football pages considering (from eye test) that most of the errors come from elections and football season pages. Ecourter (talk) 18:54, 23 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ecourter: Thanks for the note. I have added several football templates to the Translation page: {{Efs end}}, {{Extended football squad end}}, {{Fb cap footer}}, {{fb si footer}}, {{Game log end}}. --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:27, 23 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thumbs up.
Looks like {{BundleEnd}}, {{CBB Yearly Record Subtotal}}, {{CBB Yearly Record End}}, might have the same problem from the handful of pages I looked through. Ecourter (talk) 01:57, 24 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Bamyers99 Is the @@HasNewline@@ mark supposed to be strictly about |}, or also other table syntax at the beginning of the closing template? The wording in the comment implies the former, but the latter can also cause minor display issues, so I wanted to check before adding {{CFB Conference Schedule End}}, which starts with |- without a newline, but does have it before its |}. Gamapamani (talk) 07:23, 26 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Gamapamani: @@HasNewline@@ is only about the table end marker. The CFB template can be added to the Translation configuration with the @@HasNewline@@. Bamyers99 (talk) 13:15, 26 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:CHECKWIKI/WPC 551 dump false positives

[edit]

Wikipedia:CHECKWIKI/WPC 551 dump is reporting '' '' as an error, but there is no error there, Linter or otherwise. It's a blank placeholder for italic text to be inserted later. Can that false positive please be removed from the list of conditions that are checked for by that report? Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:46, 6 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This is still happening. How does this get fixed? – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:26, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That might not be an error, but that is horrible editing practices that shouldn't be allowed either. Best left in the report so editors can clean this mess up. It's also what the description says A line is only composed of non displayed elements (like ) which is exactly this. Gonnym (talk) 15:56, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
One person's "horrible" is another person's "ready for the next person to edit the article with the correct formatting". I do not think that this is an error, or a mess, or horrible editing. It causes no problems. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:19, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pages cannot be set as done

[edit]

Since yesterday pages cannot be set to done for the German Wikipedia. It only shows "404 Not Found". Best Thomas Dresler (talk) 08:39, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Thomas Dresler: Web browser script blockers (ie. NoScript) must be disabled for checkwiki.toolforge.org. The Done links, etc. use JavaScript to obfuscate the links so that bots can't follow the links. --Bamyers99 (talk) 14:02, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Script blockers have been disabled. I just saw that it works again, no settings changed. Best Thomas Dresler (talk) 23:20, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I wonder if there is a way to find broken syntax that is a template that is closed with a link syntax: {{Ping|user]], but in general and not for a specific template. I was fixing lint error at [1] and noticed the headings weren't being colored which tipped me off that something other than reported lint error was broken here. Gonnym (talk) 11:18, 10 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Gonnym: Checkwiki only checks the article namespace. In an article it would get detected by both "Template without correct end (43)" and "Square brackets without correct beginning (46)". --Bamyers99 (talk) 13:09, 10 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Down

Is the tool down again? Greetings --Icy2008 (talk) 09:24, 5 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Headings with Title Case

[edit]

Hello! Would it be possible for Checkwiki to look for headings with "Title Case" (as opposed to the correct "Sentence case")? If there's no reason to not do this, perhaps I could take a stab at the code. StrangeAsterism (talk) 12:17, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@StrangeAsterism: Don't know how you would ignore proper use of Title Case, per MOS:SECTIONCAPS. --Bamyers99 (talk) 15:22, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I guess you're right! Darn. Thanks for the response StrangeAsterism (talk) 19:07, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

'big' tags at NL wiki

[edit]

Hi, I think you should turn off report 41 for NL-wiki. The usage of those tags is the status quo at NL, we even don't have {{big}}. The tags are also offered in the source editor. I saw the report has already been turned off for EN wiki. Jcb (talk) 05:19, 19 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Jcb: Turned off with this edit. --Bamyers99 (talk) 11:49, 19 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Runs at AF Wiki

[edit]

Hi, how can we change the runs at AF Wiki from monthly into daily? Jcb (talk) 21:34, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Jcb: Daily not needed for only 129,493 articles. Statistiek --Bamyers99 (talk) 22:26, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand that reasoning? AF is currently clean, why leave all new errors for the next month to get fixed? And few articles means little server time, especially since it only scans the articles that have been edited since the previous scan. Jcb (talk) 22:41, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
