This is the discussion page of Tambayan Philippines, where Filipino contributors and contributors to Philippine-related articles discuss general matters regarding the development of Philippine-related articles as well as broad topics on the Philippines with respect to Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects. Likewise, this talk page also serves as the regional notice board for Wikipedia concerns regarding the Philippines, enabling other contributors to request input from Filipino Wikipedians.

Establishment date of the PMA

[edit]

The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) article says, "It was established on December 21, 1936, by the virtue of National Defense Act of 1935. It is patterned after the United States Military Academy, in West Point, New York.[3]" However the infobox of that article says that the establishment date of the PMA was October 25, 1898. The is much more info and discussion about this, much of it from me, on the article talk page. I request that all this be reviewed by knowledgeable members of this wikiproject appropriate source-supported changes be made in the article. @Wtmitchell: Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Aguinaldo's Academia Militar is IMHO a separate organization/facility. Though this source appears to allude that there was a Academia Militar during the Spanish era. It might have been a precursor, but not the same organization. It would be like how the current 185th Infantry Regiment in the United States has a separate lineage (tracing itself to the lineage of the 185th Armor Regiment) from the precursor 185th Infantry Regiment RightCowLeftCoast (Moo) 21:06, 15 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I've re-read PP35 s_1998. Based on that, I've changed the establishment date asserted in the infobox. I explained my reasoning for that change here. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 13:13, 21 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Tambayan Philippines Discord server

[edit]

Hello project members, a Discord server has been set up for interested editors to discuss Philippine-related topics. Discord can be an easier forum to collaborate on in some ways, with better discussion tools and the ability to more easily share images and files. However, like other Wikipedia-related Discord servers, it is strictly casual and does not replace or in any way substitute on-wiki processes and discussions. (For further information see Wikipedia:Discord, which contains the guidelines relating to the main English Wikipedia Discord server and which set standard expectations the Tambayan Philippines Discord server will follow.) While the name follows this WikiProject's, the server is open to anyone wanting to discuss Philippine-related Wikimedia topics, from any Wikimedia project.

For those interested in joining, the invite link is https://discord.gg/2cnhJrPPnQ. Best regards, CMD (talk) 07:30, 13 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Review request: Draft:Michael L. Siervo

[edit]

Hello. I am requesting an informal review of Draft:Michael L. Siervo ahead of resubmission to AfC.

Michael Siervo is a Filipino-Canadian entrepreneur, author, and former financial executive based in Calgary, Alberta. The draft covers his career in Canadian institutional finance, his founding of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce Alberta, and his current work building a professional training platform for Filipino digital workers through the Modern Institute of Business.

The draft was previously declined for résumé-like tone and insufficient independent sourcing. Both issues have since been addressed: the prose has been rewritten in encyclopedic register with inline attribution, and additional independent sources have been added including CBC News, the Alberta Filipino Journal, Wealth Professional Awards, and a June 2026 feature in The Global Filipino Magazine.

I have a declared conflict of interest and have disclosed this on my user page per COI guidelines. Any feedback on sourcing gaps, tone, or notability would be appreciated before resubmission. — User:Zetiah (talk) Zetiah (talk) 14:46, 17 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle
The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle

Hey Tambayan Philippines, the Developing Countries WikiContest is back for a third year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.

Thanks to everyone who answered the call for coordinators, and please welcome the new faces on the coordinator team: the 2024 Gold Belt Buckle winner Generalissima (talk · contribs); and the record-holder for most India-related submissions in 2024, Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs)! Following feedback from last year, adjustments have been made to the scoring rules; discussion can be found on the contest talk page.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or contact one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), Generalissima (talk · contribs), Magentic Manifestations (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). (Sent via MediaWiki message delivery.) TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 16:02, 20 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I know you just deliver messages, but we here have to fend off AFDs nominated by foreigners on rather notable articles lol... Howard the Duck (talk) 16:27, 20 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Please help us find reliable sources. Bearian (talk) 21:37, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

This article has the "sufficient sources" label for over three years, a bit criminal for the three-time UAAP champion and two-time PBA All-Star. Any help is appreciated; I will later add some text and sources related to his college career and the current situation on his contract extension with ROS.
