Medal count in all competation

[edit]

Hi everyone. In official CEV and FIVB statistical publications, results and medal records of certain former states are attributed to their successor national teams in historical records.

For example, in CEV European Championship statistics, Russia is listed with a total of 19 titles, including 13 won by the Soviet Union and 6 won by Russia itself.

The CEV also provides consolidated historical summaries in which achievements of dissolved states (such as the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia) are included under their successor national teams for statistical purposes.

These representations are consistently reflected in official CEV competition histories and summary tables.

Sources:

1 ("The 32 European Championship tournaments have been won by eight different national teams. Russia have won nineteen times (thirteen as Soviet Union). The other European Championship winners are Serbia and Italy with three wins each; Germany (as East Germany) and Poland, with two titles each; and Bulgaria, Czech Republic as (Czechoslovakia) and the Netherlands, with one title each".)

2 ("Russia won the European Championship a record 19 times (13 as Soviet Union, 6 as Russia). No other country has won the competition more than twice.")

3 ("Serbia are the reigning womenโ€™s European Champions, World Champions and Olympic silver medallists. Serbia (previously as Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro) have participated in 18 editions of EuroVolley Women โ€“ out of 30. They have claimed five medals in their history, including gold in 2011 and 2017, silver in 2007, and bronze in 2015 and 1951. Serbia have played 120 matches at EuroVolley this far, recording 53 wins and 67 losses.")

[edit]

Hi everyone, I would like to get a better consensus on whether we should adding match links to every volleyball match in specific tournaments. I have worked really hard on making detailed volleyball boxes for each game in various high profile volleyball national team competitions. My idea was to link every match to their respective statistics which are on the group/league phase pages because it is an easier way to navigate for readers and, personally, to edit as well. Plus, this is common practice in various other sporting events on Wikipedia so I thought since I am making detailed reports of each game, the links would be a no-brainer. However, two editors have constantly reverted my edits, even though they don't they have a consensus on this issue. If you need me to elaborate, just ask.

That is a normal occurrence in basketball and other sports as well. I donโ€™t see why it shouldnโ€™t be the same for volleyball matches. Iโ€™m in favor of it. SerdarBar (talk) 17:42, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your insight. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 17:44, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As one of the editors involved, I need to clarify that every single match box in question already contains a direct link to the competition's boxscore and detailed report. No one is trying to hide ILoveSport2006's commendable hard work; the issue is that they are attempting to add additional, duplicate shortcut links on top of those existing links within a very tight space. Per WP:OVERLINK, this creates massive visual clutter and extreme redundancy. While the "other sports do it" argument has been raised, WP:OTHERCONTENT dictates that pointing to how other articles are formatted is not a valid precedent for overriding general WP:MOS guidelines here. Because the reader already has a direct navigational path via the boxscores, adding duplicate links serves no functional purpose, and I oppose it. ๊•ฅ ๐™ณ.๐Ÿท๐Ÿพ๐š๐š‘ ๊•ฅ โ†’๐™ผ๐šŽ๐šœ๐šœ๐šŠ๐š๐šŽ ๐š–๐šŽโ† 18:23, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
As I have told you numerous times though, I think we need more links because, for example, the Volleyball Nations League has 108 games in the league phase. If someone wanted to see a game that was in week 2 on the league stage page, it will take a while to navigate through 108 games to find the specific one. While on the other hand, if you have numerous links to each game, this problem will be solved. Also, on your point about that we already have the boxscore and detailed links, if that is your argument, then why do we have sport boxes in the first place if only the links will suffice? Also, I did compromise by adding the 9 links to every pool as opposed to every game. Yet you deleted that too and then when I asked for ideas on the Nations League talk page, no one responded. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 18:46, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
