Conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Timdutton. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Dutton Cars, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Sam Sailor Talk! 13:01, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Amphibious automobile. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Melcous (talk) 06:58, 23 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Ckatl. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Dutton Cars have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. patrolckatl (msg|contribs) 13:19, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

So you are quite happy to print libellous copy stating that we went out of business in 1989 when in fact we are STILL in business TODAY. The entire copy regarding Dutton Cars Ltd is riddled with inaccuracies Timdutton (talk) 13:31, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Tim. I understand your frustration regarding the accuracy of the dates in the article, but please understand that Wikipedia has strict policies regarding Conflict of Interest and Verifiability. Because you are the founder of the company, you should not edit the article directly. To correct the timeline and prove that the company is still manufacturing, we cannot rely on your personal word or corporate statements. We require independent, reliable third-party sources (such as automotive magazines, major news publications, or industry books). Please do not edit the article directly to add promotional language. Instead, you can use the article's talk page to request changes. patrolckatl (msg|contribs) 13:38, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please clarify how telling people that I am actually is still in business, and have been since 1967, is either promotional or conflict of interest. I was just attempting to correct inaccuracies in your article which actually will detract from my business. Can you at least reassure people that I am still trading? Your own references down the bottom of the article prove that as they refer to 2025 articles. Should you wish to get your facts straight, please contact me; I would be happy to help. Timdutton (talk) 13:22, 12 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not a platform for your personal company to correct its own narrative. Whether or not you believe the information is libellous or inaccurate, you cannot be the one to rewrite the article. As the owner of the subject matter, you have a clear Conflict of Interest (COI) WP:COI. Directly editing your own business's biography is forbidden because it compromises the neutrality.
If you are the owner, you are not a reliable source for your own article. Wikipedia requires Independent, Reliable Sources to verify any information. Information that you personally know to be true, but which cannot be verified by an independent third party, cannot be included.
Please stop editing the article directly. Continued reinsertion of your own edits, particularly after being warned, may result in you being blocked from editing. Post your requested corrections on Talk:Dutton Cars. You must clearly state what is inaccurate and provide links to independent, published sources that prove your claims. Use the {{request edit}} template on the talk page to ask neutral editors to review your sources and make the changes for you. Sir Nuttingham (talk) 13:41, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
