Sourcing
[edit]Hi Ss22167, I thought it might help to inform you that lead content does not necessarily need citations as long as the information is sourced in the rest of the article, especially if the information is uncontroversial (see MOS:LEADCITE). Also, please note that in Wikipedia, secondary sources are often preferred to primary sources (see WP:PRIMARY). Happy editing. Alenoach (talk) 00:48, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot my dear friend for such a crucial yet important guideline. If you do not mind can you please give me with many such caveats practices, so the process of editing is smooth. Thank you! Ss22167 (talk) 12:07, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
- Sourcing is something on which many experienced editors are quite strict. Wikipedia articles roughly aim to summarize what secondary sources say. The main purpose of sources is to verify the accuracy. Another important purpose is to verify the notability (how much Wikipedia should cover a fact depends on how widely covered in the media it is). References can also be useful to provide further information for curious readers.
- There is this guideline that may be helpful: WP:Reliable sources. If you have a doubt on whether a website is reliable, here is a table that assesses the reliability of different sources: Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources. Serious journalistic sources are often good. For scientific articles, verify that they are not preprints (papers that have not undergone peer review). Not sure if it helps, but I personally use Google News more than Google because most of the sources it returns are considered reliable on Wikipedia. Alenoach (talk) 21:46, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Courier, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:
- A dates error. References show this error when one of the date-containing parameters is incorrectly formatted. Please edit the article to correct the date and ensure it is formatted to follow the Wikipedia Manual of Style's guidance on dates. (Fix | Ask for help)
Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 12:40, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
