Biographical details

[edit]

Hi. I wanted to explain why I reverted a change you made to Bobby Moynihan. In this edit, you added a full name, but you didn't cite a reliable source. Wikipedia has strict rules on content in biographies of living persons because this can impact real peoples' lives. Please be aware the many sites on the internet purport to give information about celebrities, but few of them of reliable. Sites like the IMDb use user-generated content, and they should not be cited in biographical articles. Similarly, celebrity gossip websites should not be used because most of them don't have a history of fact checking or publishing corrections. Fan sites and blogs are self-published and have no editorial control. We also can't use primary documents, such as government databases, or genealogical websites (which are also typically user-generated, as above). This means that the number of available sources is quite slim, and we often have to either go without some information or wait until a source like Entertainment Weekly or the BBC publishes an interview that includes it. If you're not sure whether a source is reliable, you can ask at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 04:49, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your addition of a birth name to Abby Elliott. Another editor has summarized the situation well in "Biographical details" above, so I won't go over the same points. Please be careful to supply appropriate citations. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:50, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Owen Biddle. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Co-director as a directorial debut

[edit]

Co-director doesn't count as a director debut as a co-director isn't a credited director. See the hidden note for Finding Dory in the infobox as well as talk page. LancedSoul (talk) 20:31, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Source on Chloe Troast birthplace

[edit]

Hey Sambenyoseph! I saw you edited Chloe Troast's birthplace, but the source just says she "hails from" Ho-Ho-Kus. Do you have a source that says she was born there, too? I know this is a trivial detail but I'd feel better if we had a source. Thanks! :) Crunchydillpickle🥒 (talk) 20:47, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Occupations

[edit]

Only the most notable occupations should be added to the lead sentence in a person's biography. In this case https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Scott_Kraft&diff=prev&oldid=1223896317 Scott Kraft has only directed a total of three episodes in his career, so describing him as a director is highly undue, see also MOS:ROLEBIO --FMSky (talk) 14:23, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you still doing the same exact thing https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Caroline_Rhea&diff=prev&oldid=1224873537 --FMSky (talk) 20:59, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Please do not add incorrect, unsourced information to Wikipedia

[edit]

I just noticed that another editor had to revert a lot of incorrect unsourced information you added over the past few months to numerous Wikipedia articles about co-directors, including Toy Story 2 and Encanto.

It's clear that you do not understand the difference between a co-director and a director at major studios. This topic is frequently covered by industry publications like Variety and THR.

A co-director has almost the same authority as the director in terms of being able to critique and approve shots, but is ultimately subordinate to the director and must implement the director's vision for the project rather than their own. When a director appoints a co-director, they have already worked extensively with that person to arrive at a common vision of the project. They are confident that the co-director can accurately predict how the director himself or herself would critique a particular shot and thereby step into the director's shoes. This is usually because the co-director is a screenwriter or storyboard artist on the development team and has spent many months in a writers' room brainstorming plot points with the director and working with the visual development team to put together the look of the film. A director has full authority to develop their artistic vision for a film project and everyone else has to follow what the director says, subject only to the producer's rights to override or fire the director. Accordingly, it is inaccurate to refer to a co-director's appointment as their "feature directorial debut" because they do not have full control. This is why professional publications do not use that phrase with regard to co-directors. Which is why all those edits you added were unsourced.

If you had bothered to do some research as required by WP core policies like WP:V and WP:NOR, you would have soon realized the reason you can't find professional publications (only amateur blogs) making that assertion is because of this critical difference. Sambenyoseph- please also note the template instructions at Template:Infobox television, which states that the 'writer' parameter should not be used if the show has 5 or more writers.
