Nebulas

[edit source]

Careful - Nebula Award years are weird. "Nebula for Best Novel in 2005" is not "2005 Nebula for Best Novel".y DS (talk) 06:34, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

"Nebula for Best Novel in 2005" and "2005 Nebula for Best Novel" mean the exact same thing. The fact that Nebula Award pages for individual awards say "in 2005" does not change the fact that it is the 2005 Nebula Awards. Please see any nebulas.sfwa.org page, such as for 2015: https://nebulas.sfwa.org/award-year/2015/
or any Locus Magazine page for the awards: https://locusmag.com/2016/05/10777/
They both say 2015 Nebula Awards or 2015 Nebula Awards Winners. There is no need to be "careful" here. OrbitingJupiter (talk) 15:26, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The 2019 Hugo is given for works produced in 2018. The 2023 Oscar is given for works produced in 2022. The 2025 Nebula is given for works produced in what year?
There's always need to be careful. DS (talk) 17:17, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I am more than aware that the 2019 Hugo Award is given for work produced in 2018.
Just as I am aware that the 2025 Nebula is given for work produced in 2025, even though the ceremony is in 2026.
I think you are using sfadb to account for Nebula Awards. If so, their page is screwed up. Whoever built it defaulted to how the Hugo and Locus Awards are given for the Nebulas, but the Nebulas do not do what the Hugos, Locus, and Academy Awards do. OrbitingJupiter (talk) 17:32, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the Otherwise Award, Shirley Jackson Awards, Bram Stoker Awards, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize all do the same thing as the Nebula Awards, matching award year to publication year. You should really not go around assuming that all awards operate the same way as the Hugos and Oscars because they actually don't.
In case it's still unclear, here is the ballot for the 2025 Nebula Awards for the upcoming 2026 Nebula Conference:
https://locusmag.com/2026/03/2025-nebula-awards-ballot/
When the winners get their awards, they will be 2025 Nebula Award Winners aka winners of the Nebula Award for Best [insert category] in 2025. I hope this has clarified things for you. OrbitingJupiter (talk) 07:33, 2 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
