Counter-vandalism

Hey Metromutt, thanks for your counter-vandalism efforts; you're doing quite well from what I can see! Couple of quick notes:

Always try to warn users on their talk page, or otherwise leave a talk page message (which is preferred) so they are aware that what they're doing is disruptive.
When you're reverting, make sure you're catching all the vandalism. For instance this edit of yours maintains that Jeff Vernetti is a not politician. I've fixed this specific instance for you but if you want to go back through and see if there are any other pages where you've reverted but not completely, please do so. Rollback makes this easier, but...
There are a couple of tools you can use to speed up the process and efficiency of reverting & warning; Twinkle and ultraviolet are what I recommend. Please be careful with these: you are still responsible for all the edits you make with them and you must ensure that what you're reverting as vandalism is actually vandalism: clear, indisputable vandalism.

This is a sort of unrelated ask, but I would actually like to note that there seems to be some sort of bot spamming youtube links across multiple articles, is there anything in particular that I can do about this? Yeah that bot is a well-known character. Unfortunately not much we can do but wait for a sysop to block.

With Twinkle you can report to WP:AIV quite quickly, you can add that they are a spambot in your report. (TW menu -> ARV).

I have, and its really neat!! It took my a second to realize what a couple of the different things were (unintentionally marked a rollback as a good faith instead of a normal one my first time using it lol), but so far I think I'm doing fairly okay. Again thank you lots for the corrections and the pointers, they've helped quite a bit on my approach going forward and I've been having fun with patrolling.

I do actually have one little question though, I've been trying to keep in mind leaving something on people's talkpages, but usually someone has already left something there (which is fine), but other times they aren't an actual registered account and instead one of those temporary accounts. Of course & do ask as many questions as your heart desires, it took me a while to feel comfortable with all the buttons initially so I've been there too.

If someone's already left a warning or message on the talkpage do escalate the warning when appropriate (e.g. if the user has kept vandalising after the application of a level 2 warning, and been reverted again, leave a level 3 warning). You can test out the plethora of templates here. Do also leave messages on temporary account talk pages; I typically treat them like I would any other account (save for a few sockpuppetry tactics which I won't get into now).
