Block

[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, website, or role, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Salvio giuliano 15:53, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your patience! Based on the conversation below, I am unblocking on good faith. Please know that if you return to promotional editing, you will likely be blocked again and becoming unblocked will be more challenging. If you have any questions as you return to editing, please reach out to the Teahouse. Happy editing! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 23:34, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

We are different from the German Wikipedia; here, organization accounts are not permitted. We expect each account to be exclusively used by a single person who may not give others access. 331dot (talk) 15:13, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment) Each language version of Wikipedia is run as a separate project, with its own sets of policies. While there is often significant overlap between them, this is one aspect where the German and English Wikipedias do not align. German Wikipedia allows (in fact, encourages) companies and organizations to register verified accounts. By contrast, English Wikipedia's policy is that accounts are meant for single individuals who may never share access at any time, for any reason. This policy is strict and non-negotiable.
You can submit a change of username request so that this account represents a single individual. However, name changes are global, and your account name on German Wikipedia would also change.
@331dot: This looks like a WP:HARDBLOCK, so at present they would not be allowed to create a separate account for en-wiki, is that correct? --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:08, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Drm310, it is, because the user also edited in a way which I considered promotional. Salvio giuliano 16:37, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Salvio. We can soften the block(I presume they want to keep this name on the German Wikipedia) but they need to address their edits. 331dot (talk) 16:59, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear all,
thank you for the explanations and your support.
This helped us understand the issue. May we please ask you to elaborate on what ‘softening the block’ means?
Furthermore, to support from our side, what exactly would ‘addressing the edits’ involve?
This account is used by one person at AURELIUS only and is not shared.
If we understand correctly and softening the block would be possible, may we please suggest the following: if we were to address all our edits, how about reversing all edits made since April 11 and then we address our new edits – could some changes possibly be made? AURcom (talk) 13:27, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A "soft block" allows you to create a new account, while a "hard block" prevents this. Rusalkii (talk) 23:22, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Salvio giuliano, @331dot, @Drm310 and @Rusalkii, may we kindly ask for your feedback on how to proceed with the above. Who would decide on the soft block and can we resolve the current situation? AURcom (talk) 13:44, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As the blocking administrator, I can't action your unblock request, so the only thing I can do is give you advice. At the moment, the block prevents you from editing and from creating a new account, because it is a so-called hard block; if you convince us that the block is no longer necessary to prevent disruption, it can be softened, meaning that it can be modified to allow you to create a new account, because, under our username policy, this account cannot be unblocked unless it is renamed – which you reasonably may not want to do, considering that a rename would also automatically apply to your username on the German Wikipedia.
To convince us that the block is no longer necessary to prevent disruption, you need to address your conflict of interest. Basically, what edits would you make, if you were allowed to create a new account? Are you only interested in edits about the Aurelius Group?
Finally, please read WP:PAID and make the appropriate disclosure, if applicable.
Please remember that administrators are volunteers, so it may take some time for a decision on your unblock request, because we currently have a bit of a backlog... Salvio giuliano 14:11, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Salvio giuliano
I understand this represents a conflict of interest and I am committed to acting accordingly:
  • I will not make direct edits to articles related to AURELIUS or associated individuals/companies.
  • I will always suggest changes on Talk pages or via sandbox drafts first, citing if necessary/possible reliable independent sources.
  • I will fully comply with the WP:PAID disclosure requirements and maintain transparency.
I would add this to the User Page:
"This account is operated by an employee of AURELIUS. I receive compensation for my contributions and disclose this in accordance with Wikipedia’s paid-contribution policy. I do not directly edit articles about AURELIUS or its affiliates, but may propose edits on Talk pages or in a sandbox."
As for a new Username, would AURELIUScontributor be ok?
I am fine with change of the Username in the German Wikipedia.
I do not intend to edit articles outside this scope, but would respect the community’s norms fully in any interaction.
Thank you. AURcom (talk) 13:37, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not fond of "AURELIUScontributor " because it has the hint of a posting or position within the company. As you should know, accounts can never be shared with anyone; not colleagues, successors or bosses. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:35, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Drm310,
may I suggest changing the username to "MarkAurel2005"? Thank you. AURcom (talk) 09:51, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds better, more individual in nature. I will leave it up to the reviewing admin to do the rename, as I'm not an admin and have no privileges to do so. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 12:26, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Drm310, thank you for the quick reply. Is there anything we need to do at this stage? Who will be reviewing the block/username? AURcom (talk) 12:45, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing you can do at this point except wait. Your unblock request is just one of many in the queue of unblock requests. Administrators, like all Wikipedia editors, are volunteers. There is no set order to which unblock requests are reviewed, and no time promised for when it will be done. Your request make take days or even weeks to be evaluated. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 13:03, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Salvio giuliano: How do you feel about an unblock once the user name has been changed? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 13:57, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I notice that your userpage states the "account is operated by the communications department," which indicates multiple people have either used, currently use, or will use the account. Can you let us know how many people have or have had access to this account? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 00:13, 10 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Significa liberdade,
To answer your question up front: the account was registered only recently, as you can see, and only I ever used it, as I think you can also see.
And now that I am a little more educated on the matter, that will of course continue to be the case.
Coming from German Wikipedia, the truth is that, when I registered the account, I did not realise that someone could assume that multiple people may be using the account just by the name and the fact that I registered with the German Wikipedia.
But I now understand the rules better and will make sure that only I will make edits and contributions and the account is never shared. I also intend to change my user name and description to make that clear, if that is permissible.
Happy to explain further. AURcom (talk) 13:50, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 13:54, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Significa liberdade, no objections, in the light of this committment. —  Salvio giuliano 14:06, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Significa liberdade, Dear @Salvio giuliano,
thank you both for explaining further.
Does that mean I will now simply wait for someone to make a decision on the hard block currently in place? Thanks. AURcom (talk) 16:17, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm ready to unblock as soon as we get a name change. I'm not capable of that, but I've reached out to someone who is. Additionally, your request for name change is sitting in the queue. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 16:28, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Significa liberdade. Unless you tell me otherwise, I will now wait until the person you asked to effect my name change has done so and the AURELIUS page has been unblocked. AURcom (talk) 08:29, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Significa liberdade and @Salvio giuliano, for taking me through this process. In order to avoid any further mishaps, I suggest that I submit suggestions for any non-trivial changes to our page (assuming I can make trivial changes directly) to the Talk page/the sandbox for approval by the Wikipedia community. Please let me know if this is acceptable to you. If it is, can you also clarify who would implement approved changes: would that be me, or would I wait for someone in the Wikipedia community to make them? MarkAurel2005 (talk) 12:51, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to edit a page that already exists, I suggest recommending the edit on the talk page of that article, then letting another edit make the change. If you want to create a new page, I recommend using the Articles for Creation process. I hope that answers your question! Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 13:57, 3 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Significa liberdade and Salvio giuliano: I have Aurelius Group in my watchlist and some recent edit summaries piqued my interest. I see that this user had committed to making edit requests due to their COI, but I note that this is not happening - significant edits have been made directly to the article. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 17:14, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Curb Safe Charmer, @Significa liberdade, @Salvio giuliano, first and foremost I have to apologise, as I simply forgot that I must always use edit requests. I might have forgotten this because it was not part of updating the German version.
Therefore, please note that this was not bad intent but my mistake.
The edits I made were fact checks, providing more relevant information or removing old/unnecessary information.
Of course, this is all subject to your review. MarkAurel2005 (talk) 17:36, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for this update, Curb Safe Charmer. MarkAurel2005, to force the conditions of your unblock, I am blocking you from directly editing Aurelius Group, though you will be able to request edits on the talk page and edit other articles. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for promotional editing in violation of your unblock condition, as you did at Aurelius Group.
If you believe that there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:07, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear, this indefinite block only applies to Aurelius Group. As stated above, you may request edits at Talk:Aurelius Group, and you may edit other articles directly. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 18:08, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Significa liberdade, thank you and apologies again. From now on I will suggest edits on the Talk:Aurelius Group page as requested. MarkAurel2005 (talk) 18:14, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
