Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]
Hello, Mads Rivers. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:53, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
More
[edit]You have an obvious conflict of interest, please don't write about yourself, your friends or relatives and read the guidance below:
- When you write about a person, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls.
- You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
- There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
- You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. If you are writing about yourself, or someone you know as a friend, colleague, client, employer or relative, you have a conflict of interest, and you must disclose the nature of that COI.
I would have thought it was obvious that someone's own papers aren't independent third-party sources, and shouldn't be used as refs. They should just be listed as Publications with no further reference. Similarly, interviews and their own GIT pages aren't suitable. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:57, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Eberhard Neumann (December 28)

- {{AFC comment|1=Thank you for the review.
- I have revised the draft to specifically address your comment by adding multiple independent, secondary sources that discuss Neumann’s contribution within the context of the field. In particular:
- A review in Annual Review of Biomedical Engineering describes the medical application of electroporation as beginning with the “seminal” 1982 work by Neumann and colleagues, and notes that the term “electroporation” was coined/first used by that group in 1982 (Yarmush et al., 2014).
- A review chapter in Advances in Genetics states that Neumann and colleagues first demonstrated plasmid transfection of mammalian cells by electroporation in 1982 (Young & Dean, 2015).
- The draft already includes an independent historical overview in Nature Methods describing Neumann as an early pioneer in the field (Eisenstein, 2006), as well as later review coverage (e.g., Stewart et al., 2018).
- I also added sourced information on professional recognition/leadership (elected EMBO membership; chair role in the German Biophysical Society) to better align with WP:NPROF criteria.

- {AFC reply|1=Thanks for review.
- This submission is intended to meet the subject-specific academic notability guideline (WP:NACADEMIC / WP:NPROF), which is an alternative to WP:GNG.
- I revised the draft to document that Eberhard Neumann satisfies multiple academic criteria, including:
- 1. Elected member of a highly selective scholarly society: Neumann is listed as an EMBO Member (elected 1980).
- EMBO membership is by election and recognizes outstanding achievements in the life sciences. (Sources: EMBO People directory; ETH Zürich description of EMBO membership election.)
- 2. Leadership of a major scholarly society: Neumann served as Vorsitzender (chair/president) of the German Biophysical Society (DGfB), and IUPAB lists DGfB as Germany’s adhering body and national society for biophysics. (Sources: DGfB Rundschreiben 1/2004; IUPAB DGfB member listing.)
- Independent secondary sources are also used in the body to support the historical/scientific context of his contributions (e.g., secondary reviews of electroporation), while institutional sources are limited to routine biographical facts.
- If you still feel WP:NACADEMIC is not satisfied, could you point at which criterion is not met? I can further revise as necessary -- thanks for the feedback } Mads Rivers (talk) 23:13, 28 December 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Jlwoodwa. An article that you recently made, Moore Inventor Fellowship, seemed to be generated using a large language model (an "AI chatbot" or another application using such technology). Text produced by these applications can be unsuitable for an encyclopedia, and output must be carefully checked. In particular, you should check each citation, and fictitious references must be removed. If you want to practice editing, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. jlwoodwa (talk) 22:48, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

Ldm1954 (talk) 18:03, 8 January 2026 (UTC)I have sent you a note about a page you started
[edit]Hi Mads Rivers. Thank you for your work on Eberhard Neumann. Another editor, Ldm1954, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:
This is not the best page, for instance him being chair of DGIB has a broken link. This matters as that is an automatic pass of WP:NPROF#6. Not that he needs it as his citations and contributions are impressive, a clear pass of WP:NPROF#C1. I have left the comment by User:DoubleGrazing in, but it does not apply for academic notability. However, I suggest adding at least an authority control and Scopus profile.
To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Ldm1954}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)
