Your GA nomination of Black and Tans
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Black and Tans you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria.
This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of AirshipJungleman29 -- AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 12:43, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:GANI, you are required to be a major contributor to an article, which you are not for Black and Tans. I am thus removing the nomination from the article talk page. You are welcome to renominate with the consent of the major contributors. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 19:44, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Black and Tans
The article Black and Tans you nominated as a good article has failed
; see Talk:Black and Tans for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of AirshipJungleman29 -- AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 20:05, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi AirshipJungleman29 thanks very much but there appears to be something broken, there is no GA nomination info on the talk page and the link you included is red. John Cummings (talk) 05:32, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- See the above section. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 11:37, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

Minimum Speciesbox parameters for full functionality
Hi, when you create a {{Speciesbox}}, as at Glossina haningtoni (which I've fixed), you need to complete either |taxon= or |genus=+|species= (not both). Although by default, the WP:Automated taxobox system picks up the taxon name from the page name, it doesn't have full functionality, e.g. the page title isn't italicized. Peter coxhead (talk) 17:02, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Peter coxhead, thank you very much for explaining it, I thought leaving it blank autocompleted it correctly, I'll go back over the articles I've created and add in the correct bits for genus + species. Thanks again, John Cummings (talk) 17:22, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi again Peter coxhead, looks like you fixed them all already, thanks so much :) John Cummings (talk) 17:58, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Diannaa (talk) 22:54, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- In case it isn't clear, the problem with the source you used (which would anyway need to be cited) is that on p. ii it gives the copyright as "CC BY-NC-SA 3.0", but Wikipedia doesn't allow "NC" material to be used.
- Tsetse flies are clearly important and should be covered here. You need to paraphrase (but not closely) and cite. My experience is that in species descriptions it's hard to avoid quite close paraphrasing because there is a standard terminology that biologists use, but it can be avoided in other areas. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:52, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- I expanded Glossina fusca a bit, hopefully to show how it can be done. I don't intend to do any more – tsetse flies are not an interest of mine! Peter coxhead (talk) 11:09, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Dear Diannaa and Peter coxhead, I deeply appreciate your help with this. I've been working with an expert on the topic to create these new articles and it seems the rephrasing got missed with this particular article. Thank you for your work in fixing this issue, I've rephrased the info about the subspecies. John Cummings (talk) 11:49, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that. And sorry for the earlier templated message; the high volume of reports at CopyPatrol right now precludes the use of more personalized messages. Diannaa (talk) 12:00, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

- There are two ways you could handle referencing to The continental atlas of the distribution of tsetse flies in Africa in the Glossina fusca article. One is to just use a single named reference to the whole work, with the page indication given as "pp. 50, 58–59". (You need p. 50 because that's where the authorities for the subspecies are.) The other, which I prefer, and I think is more helpful to readers when different page ranges are used for different information, is to put the work in the Bibliography section, and then use
{{sfnp|Cecchi|Paone|de Gier|Zhao|2024|p=...}}or{{sfnp|Cecchi|Paone|de Gier|Zhao|2024|pp=...}}for each page/pages you have used. But which you use is up to you, but please always include the pages. Peter coxhead (talk) 12:40, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tolarian Community College. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Tolarian Community College), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Update: New Event-Organizer Tools for You on English Wikipedia!
Hello,
I hope you're doing well! As an event coordinator on English Wikipedia, I’m happy to share some news with you. You now have the event-organizer right! This gives you access to the CampaignEvents extension, a powerful set of tools to help you organize and promote events and WikiProjects more easily. With the CampaignEvents extension, you can:
- Manage event registration directly on English Wikipedia.
- Use the Invitation List tool to find potential participants for your events/WikiProjects
- Receive automatic promotion of your events via the Collaboration List
Learn more on mw:Help:Extension:CampaignEvents
Now that I have your attention, I’d also like to share some updates to the extension:
- The Collaboration List can now be transcluded, meaning you can easily embed it on other wiki pages to share event details with more people by adding {{Special:AllEvents}}. Learn more.
- Admins can now determine which namespaces are permitted for Event Registration on English Wikipedia, via Special:CommunityConfiguration. Right now, the Event namespace is permitted by default for Event Registration. However, other namespaces (such as Wikipedia, WikiProject, etc) can now be added as permitted namespaces by admins too. This can help other types of organized activities, such as WikiProjects, use Event Registration. For details, please visit: Permitted_namespaces
If you need help using these new tools, I’m here to support you. Feel free to reach out for guidance. You can also find some useful video guides on Commons.
We’re excited to see how you use these tools for WikiProjects or events! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Glossina species
Dear John, it seems that you didn't see my message on your French Wikipedia page. Articles on this one are not fully identical to the English version. Please have a look on the Glossina longipalpis French page to see what I mean. Please slow down your creations before that. Thank you so much. Have a great day. Regards Givet (talk) 16:21, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- One more time, could you reply please. I see you are currently working on Wikipedia. Givet (talk) 16:02, 6 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Givet I'm very sorry to miss your messages before, please excuse the mistakes I've made. To explain I'm working with an expert on Tsetse flies who speaks English, French and some other languages, he originally wrote many of the articles in English and then translated them into French and I've tried my best to get the formatting correctly. I prepared them all in my sandbox before publishing, that's why I published them in a batch. Unfortunately the Wikipedia translate tool completely breaks all the templates so I have tried to work things out manually, I'm sorry I missed that on French Wikipedia the map goes below the main image, please could you tell me which is the correct field to use? I will also fix the reference formatting. Thanks so much for your messages. John Cummings (talk) 18:15, 6 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi John, first of all thanks a lot for your reply. OK, I understand, then I have to change these articles to the "French look", dont worry about that, I will do slowly. The most important for me is that no more article will be produced and it is the case. I will send you a message when finished so you will see the new versions. Have a great day and sorry for the inconvenient. Givet (talk) 04:42, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Givet thanks so much for your message, I really appreciate your help. I won't create any new articles in French, its such a shame the translation tool doesn't work for species. Thanks again. John Cummings (talk) 11:42, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
