Edit summary

[edit]

Hello Hocikre,

Please remember to always include an edit summary when you edit a page. Gderrin (talk) 12:34, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gderrin, noted! Hocikre (talk) 14:22, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please use edit summaries? It really helps other users. Thanks! Masterhatch (talk) 18:03, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Masterhatch, noted...I always do so, could have accidentally missed it out. Will be vigilant not to miss out any. Thanks! Hocikre (talk) 18:34, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry. I was looking at a different user and for some reason I posted on your talk page. You're good with your summaries. Again, I apologise. Masterhatch (talk) 18:57, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Very Okay! Thanks! Hocikre (talk) 19:52, 17 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Paragraphing

[edit]

Why did you make ever sentence its own paragraph here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Saturday_Night_Live_season_50&diff=0&oldid=1226417994? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 20:51, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I paragraphed every sentence becasue I felt like giving the reader a systematic understanding of the events that took place during that period to avoid appearing like as if it all happened at once. Hocikre (talk) 21:23, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Graham87 (talk) 05:45, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your enforcement of your highly eccentric article layout preferences over Wikipedia shows unfathomable arrogance and is very much disruptive. What makes you think that your preferences override those of thousands of other established Wikipedia editors, especially given the age of your account (assuming it is your first)? I have mass-rollbacked your edits; this one to Murrells Inlet Historic District was particularly ridiculous. You are not welcome here. Graham87 (talk) 05:45, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies for that though my intentions are really good because I love being part of this. Where I was corrected, I complied ASAP which means that my attitude is far from being arrogant. I request that you rethink your block and correct me where am off because history shows that my intention and attitude were positive. Thanks! Hocikre (talk) 17:54, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You may have good intentions, and I think you can get unblocked, but right now you're a net negative to the project as we don't have the resources to have someone follow you around and clean up after you. I don't see edits where you attempted to reverse your improper actions, if you did so, please provide diffs. Please also tell what will change about your actions in the future. 331dot (talk) 07:54, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Graham87 I came here trying to understand the reversion of Isocoma rusbyi. While I thought the section heading being added was unnecessary for such a short article it was harmless and I was quite surprised to find that the editor had been blocked for making edits of this type without apparently being warned before being blocked. Nor for any other disruptive behavior such as edit warring or sock puppeting. Is there some other reason that I am not seeing? 🌿MtBotany (talk) 03:55, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MtBotany Taken individually, yes, a single edit or a few edits is not a big concern. These edits are many across numerous articles. 331dot (talk) 07:55, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@331dot and MtBotany: Indeed. I've cleaned up quite a few of them and will spend several hours doing the rest over the next couple of days. I was going to go for a warning first, but the edit pattern was so prolific and on such a wide variety of articles that I thought that would be pointless. Also I'm rather wary of an unblock at the moment. Hocikre, you could agree to stop adding headings to random articles, and that would be all well and good ... but how do I know you're not going to make a huge mess in some other area of the project later? From your IP address above, I see you're in Uganda (which I didn't realise until after making the block that fact doesn't alter how I feel about it one way or the other); ; you'd be better off contributing to a local language Wikipedia, or, if you can find [[WP:RS|reliable sources], on local topics; see the List of Wikipedias. Also, MtBotany, I didn't get your ping because of how you placed your comment. Graham87 (talk) 08:01, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Graham87@331dot I entirely agree that taken as a mass it is not great editing and misunderstood why we having headings. But it also seems like a natural mistake that was not corrected, rather than being malicious. I think there are two mistakes here. One, Hocikre was making many unnecessary edits. But blocking without asking them to stop or change behavior is an over reaction. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 16:40, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate that people can in good faith have different approaches to this; our priority as admins is to prevent disruption to Wikipedia, whether that disruption is in good faith or malicious. I don't see anyone telling this user thar their actions were malicious, but a mess created in good faith is still a mess, requiring volunteer time and resources to deal with. Sometimes it's better to stop the disruption first. 331dot (talk) 18:54, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Graham87 @331dot I understand your position and can sympathize with wanting a person to stop and temporarily blocking someone until they say that will cease doing an action. However, I think you are wrong. I am going to ask for an Administrative action review. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 19:35, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Moving forward

[edit]

hi Hocikre, I think some of the comments above are needlessly (maybe unintentionally?) harsh, but there was a problem that needed addressing. Could you agree to two things?

  • No more additions of headings.
  • Until you've gained more experience here, don't make lots of similar edits to lots of articles without running them by someone more experienced.

I think everyone agrees you're trying to help, but the fact is that it took Graham87 significant time to revert your edits. And I'm sure you have no desire for all your edits to be reverted in the future, either. I think if we're all confident you're not going to make dozens of changes without being sure others will consider them useful, there won't be a significant objection to an unblock. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:35, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the feedback and helps me become better and, as I said before, I love doing this and willing to adjust accordingly. No more addition of headings and will not make lots of similar edits...Thank you once again. I am always open to correction!!! Hocikre (talk) 20:49, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. @Graham87 and 331dot: any objection to an unblock? --Floquenbeam (talk) 21:04, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As your points were agreed to, no objection. 331dot (talk) 21:05, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm actually about to be away from a computer for several hours, and I've learned the hard way that trying to unblock on a phone is really hard not to mess up. If Graham doesn't object, could someone else do the actual unblock? If Graham doesn't reply for several hours, then Hocikre, hopefully you don't mind being patient, I want to make sure I'm not stepping on someone's toes (I know this inconveniences you, instead, just trying not to turn this into a whole thing). Floquenbeam (talk) 21:13, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No objection in principle ... but I'd also like you to agree to not rearrange paragraphs, as described above; this is also unnecessary and disruptive on a large enough scale. It would be a good idea to familiarise yourself with Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Edits like this one are undisputably good. Graham87 (talk) 02:39, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also this edit was good, but needed some shaping (as do many contributions by new editors). ... and I did have to fix a bit of grammar, but it wasn't unsalvageable . We used to have the concept of contributing what you know or are willing to learn more about; I think this is valid here. Feel free to find something you're interested in (I apologise for implying above that it could only be about your local area), preferably an area in which you're familiar with the terminology, and add a bit of text about it; one of these edits in a month is much more valuable than many edits in a day. Graham87 (talk) 03:14, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well that was a long "several hours" on my part. Thanks for unblocking. Floquenbeam (talk) 19:25, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

[edit]

On reflection, I've decided to unblock you. I think an unblock isn't a bad idea, given all that's transpired. Please take heed of the advice above. Graham87 (talk) 03:17, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

...Including that about copying text from other websites to Wikipedia. While reviewing your edits, I discovered that you copied the text from this site, which is of such a promotional nature that the fact that you even thought to copy its text to Wikipedia is highly concerning. Graham87 (talk) 09:40, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And then there's this change (particularly the edit to the opening) at Maccabi Netanya F.C.. Do you remember if you decided to make that change yourself or were you guided to do so by some sort of computer program? If you'd done that sort of thing more than a few times, I would have refused to unblock you. Competence is required to edit this site and that edit didn't show much of it. I'm becoming increasingly concerned about your viability as an editor in the medium-to long term. Graham87 (talk) 12:59, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've finished reviewing your edits. Per your earlier efforts, you might want to see Wikipedia's guideline on overlinking. Graham87 (talk) 16:55, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits

[edit]

Hello, thanks for your many recent edits. I've spot-checked a few of them and most seemed fine, but I'm concerned by this edit of yours that I reverted to Ifrane Airport, where you added an unsourced section template, even though the section in question had a reference that completely covered the text within it. Please try to be more careful in the future. If you have any questions about Wikipedia, feel free to ask them at the teahouse, a friendly space for new editors. Graham87 (talk) 03:15, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your attention. Hocikre (talk) 06:25, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I'm sorry about my earlier block of your account and my harsh words that came with it. That block was one of the things that eventually led me to lose my adminship; see my subpage about this for more details. Graham87 (talk) 03:44, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

sad to hear that! Hocikre (talk) 06:25, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, Hocikre. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Badr Jafar, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Graham87 (talk) 08:00, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd strongly advise you not to edit any articles on which you may have a conflict of interest, nor should you act as a proxy for someone who does. Graham87 (talk) 08:00, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I started a discussion on the talk page, please join me there. Also I started a dispute resolution process. Hocikre (talk) 13:44, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

Do you have a conflict of interest with Badr Jafar, including paid editing? I ask because the Jafar article has been rife with COI editing for a long time and you just so happen to be edit-warring to include unencyclopedic promotional content written by COI accounts. Thenightaway (talk) 16:23, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lone Star Brewing Company, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lone Star. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
