Macedonia

No, I don’t agree with that. The text “North Macedonia” doesn’t appear anywhere in the article, and even if it did, when you click the link Republic of Macedonia, you get taken to North Macedonia anyway. Hello Pee Jay. Please use your mouse cursor, you will see the hint text and the difference (on mouse over). The link to North Macedonia is fine, since this is the fitting article. The hint text is wrong, since 2003 is was NOT North Macedonia. MKD redirected to country data Macedonia, now it redirects to North Macedonia. There is no MKD-1995, since the hint text is always the alias and cannot be changed. So, as I see, the only way to get the article back in the state it was, is to kill the redirect and directly link to country data Macedonia. Without sounding rude, just because you can’t think of another solution doesn’t mean there isn’t one. What about adding a variant to Template:Country data North Macedonia so that the country’s name appears as just “Macedonia” before 2019? Also, does it really make much difference what the tooltip says if the link goes to the correct place and explains the name change? – Pee Jay 23:21, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You don't sound rude Pee Jay, don't worry. Of course, there are other solutions! There always are. The easiest is always the direct template, but I see, you prefer an alias that just redirects. Is that difference not just what you called "pretty pointless"? Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to change the title of a page by cutting its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Braunschweig Lions. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Thanks, I know this. The problem is, in this case I had to move the page back to its origin. At the origin there was, as usual, a redirect. I know you can ask for deletion for the redirect then move back the page. I did this ealier, but this lasts very long. The redirect is in use, hence, discussions... you explain that you just want the redirect to be deleted to use it again properly. Nothing happens for weeks. Is there a way to switch "page" and "redirect"? Or is there another possibility to handle this situation? This would help a lot. GregorBungensheim (talk) 18:12, 25 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

If this is an uncontroversial move, it should be able to be requested at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests, which moves pretty quickly. It's only if the request is contested that a full requested move discussion would need to be opened. MCE89 (talk) 02:06, 26 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that's what I needed, I didn't know that possibility. I made a request. Unfortunately, not everyone is completely sure it's uncontroversial. I don't see any arguments against the move back, since really no-one uses the name New Yorker Lions. What should I do and what happens if nobody has an argument against the move back?
