Bot can't deal with immensely long note field in GA nominee for Marcus Eli Ravage

[edit]

Mike Christie, there's a note of over a dozen lines recently added to the GA nominee template on Talk:Marcus Eli Ravage, which ChristieBot can't deal with, so it keeps trying to process it every time ChristieBot runs. Not sure what you want to do about it—maybe the bulk of the note can be extracted to the talk page of the article?—but it's going to try again and again until something's done. Thought you'd want to know. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:59, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm about to be out of commission for at least a day, and possibly longer, so I would suggest shortening the note for now. I can look into lengthening the note field but it wouldn't happen till some time next week at the earliest and probably not till later than that. The current_facs report seems very useful. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 11:15, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, this isn't possible. The featured article stats depend on manual labor, including going through every FAC candidacy for the last twenty years. That work has not been done for featured lists, and I don't have the time or energy to do it. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:25, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no problem. I'll look at the source code when I'm free and see if there's anything I can borrow for a cloned tool in that case. I hope you don't mind questions if I'm unable to understand something about your code/process. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 11:29, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all, but the code you can access here is only for the GA side of things, since the FAC piece can't work independently. The functionality that can't be fully automated is the determination of who supported/opposed each FL candidate. If you're only interested in statistics for nominators -- how many nominated, how many promoted -- that's doable and I can give you code that could pretty easily be modified; it's the analysis of reviews that is not automatable. You'd need a toolforge account if you don't already have one. The bot is in Python and MariaDB. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:34, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. I think for FLs we can do with a subset of what you've created for FAs. Oppose stats are not as important IMO. I do have a toolforge account and have created tools there. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 11:39, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
OK, send me an email and I'll reply with some code and some details. Probably today but it will be a complicated email so might take a while to put together. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 12:04, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'll only be free for this after a few weeks, so I don't want you to put in any effort until it is necessary. Don't worry, I'll send you an email if I get stuck on something and need the whole source code. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 12:10, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll send you the code, the table structures, and a brief overview of how it fits together; feel free to email me with any questions. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 12:14, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

No review notification

[edit]

Hello, I noticed that one of my articles, Eshu (collection), was picked up for review yesterday, but the bot didn't notify me on my talk page. Not sure if this is a me problem or a repeat glitch but figured I'd give you a heads up. ♠PMC(talk) 13:35, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

For much of yesterday the bot was getting terminated by system processes, presumably because system load was high. When that happens and the bot has done part of a process it can't pick up the second half, so I'm pretty sure that's what happened to your nomination. I did make a change recently to add "has passed" or "has failed" to the nominator talk page messages, but I don't think that can have caused the problem. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 13:43, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, no problem! Just wanted to check :) ♠PMC(talk) 14:16, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Bot appears to have stalled.

I think this is now fixed. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:44, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Bot ignores redirects

[edit]

It just posts on my redirect page. It's quite annoying. Can you fix that, @Mike Christie? In solidarityWikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 11:42, 12 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I can add it to my list but it won't be fixed soon. I would suggest changing the nominations to be nominated by the userid with the talk page you want it to use. See also the notes on ChristieBot's user page about changing your name; if you want to combine your alt statistics with the main username you can do that. Anaheim Ducks

[edit]

Hey Mike, it looks like Anaheim Ducks was promoted last year, but is still showing up on the nominator's GAN editor statistics as under review. The templates on the talk page appear correct, the article has the GA sticker, the page is listed on Wikipedia:Good articles/Sports and recreation, and the nom received a notice of the pass. Not urgent. Whonting (talk) 04:52, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I had a quick look and don't see what the issue is; I'll try to find time later this week to have another look. If you spot a similar problem for any other nominations please let me know. Thanks for the note. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:11, 23 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Now fixed; there were a few others like this, so I've put in something to catch them if any more slip through the cracks. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:12, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciate your help here, thanks. Whonting (talk) 15:25, 24 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
