Norwegian figure skating championship
Hello Bgsu98. I am Norwegian and have som books (some offical yearbooks, from the 1980's, 1990's and the 2000's, and other yearly skatinghandbooks, a few round the millennia-shift) from the Norwegian Skating Association. And in some of them they have a list of all the norwegian champions in figure skating, and only one time, Astrid Nordsveen, became a senior national champion and that was in 1914 in pairs with Andreas Krogh. The lists of norwegian champions also include the name of the technical local organisers and the dates and hostcity and name of the sports ground it was held at. The lists also include the same for the junior-winners. So I must say some of your medalwinners are incorrect according to the list from these books that I have. I give you the leeway from bad translations. But would you like me to add the dates for the national championship for easier finding the correct results ? See also this page Norwegian Championships at Allskaters.info. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 03:44, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- I added results this evening based on newspaper articles I found, and provided links to the articles. Which of these results are incorrect? Of course I would love to see these tables complete with results and sources. Bgsu98 (Talk) 03:59, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hello again Bgsu98. Would you like me to email you the lists from the skatinghandbook 1999/2000 am referring to ? I took some picures of the pages related to the national championship in figure skating (the front cover, the info of the book inside, the lists for seniors and juniors, 8 pictures in total).
- So therefore I know that your referenced source for the 1915 medal-winners are incorrect since the event in that source are before the dates for the national championship which was the weekend after that one. See this source instead https://www.oldnews.com/en/record?lang=en&record_id=record-11030-1159568&searchTerm=eJxljTEOwjAMRa%2BSiTFVKAwMHRiYgN7BNC6NFCetkxb1ZuxcDBcYECz%2Bz%2Fb%2F9hCAsKqlqDbofbCMkIryyPHaFeUZOLswyuD0uLOFzouLol4vkqaYtHkROQG%2FbDaLJEvvPlFbfojFuxr68eJdA9nFUJjeQ4PVYcKQFWYdc4essNd15BvMQnIvOXIe%2BCdpIf8HZ212ZqsI5eN39gk2UlD%2F&page_id=6 And Trondhjems Adresseavis are the same newspaper as this Adresseavisen there was just a namechange in 1927. - Yes, please! My e-mail is cmaybur@gmail.com. You should please feel free to make any corrections to the spelling, especially in the sources, as I have trouble reading the older Norwegian print. I don't speak Norwegian, but can recognize some of the text due to its similarity to German. Bgsu98 (Talk) 12:26, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- First a mail through Email this user without pictures but more info about what it contains and then a mail with those 8 pictures to your above-mentioned email-address. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 12:46, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- I updated the 1915 entries, plus several from the 1920s. Bgsu98 (Talk) 12:48, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, sidenote; Ingrid Lørdahl were the daughter of Martinus Lørdahl, and I am now living just a stonethrow from Martinus Lørdahl birthplace home. 2 emails are sent with 8 pictures in total just hope they are readable. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 13:08, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Any comments about the emailed pictured pages here or there... Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 14:21, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- They're great! I have audited the host cities and gold medalists for men, women, and pairs. We already have the results sourced from 2000 onwards, so that verifies all gold medalists. Now it's just a matter of finding the other medalists for each year. Bgsu98 (Talk) 14:30, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Have a look at the IW-linked norwegian championship-article and you'll find some more hidden sources in the wikitext. BTW. Did you notice that one of the editors of the handbook was the womens singles champion in 1970, 1971 and 1972 ? Margit (Margit Helgesen (Q135307678)) and Klara Johansen are sisters and siblings of Zacharias 'Zakken' Johansen jr. (no:Zakken Johansen (1904–1970) Norwegian champion in athletics) which was taking care of the ice and grass-surface at Frogner and later at Bislett stadiums. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 15:30, 23 July 2025 (UTC) One of the other editors are no:Magne Teigen. And added 2 links for norwegian articles, one at no:wp and the other at wikdata. Updated/expanded text. Migrant (talk – contribs) 17:31, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

User:Migrant: Are Henry Lie and Arne Lie the same person? Bgsu98 (Talk) 16:02, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Don't think so, they might or might not be related though, they represented the same skating club Oslo Skøiteklub I've created a stub-article on Arne Lie in no:wp no:Arne Lie (kunstløper). Their skating club do use the different names so I think not they are the same person. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 17:12, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, I will go with what the sources use. Is Henry even a Norwegian name? Bgsu98 (Talk) 17:14, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yup it is, but not that much in use nowadays. These are probably the most known Henry's of Norway: Henry Johansen and Henry Rinnan. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 17:31, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

User:Migrant: Could you take a moment and look at this source to determine the results for the 1917 Championships? Bgsu98 (Talk) 18:00, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- That is correct. There are also searchable digitized newspapers at the norwegian national library available for instance this search: https://www.nb.no/search?q=kunstl%C3%B8p&mediatype=aviser&sort=datedesc&fromDate=19170128&toDate=19170131&viewability=ALL This finds every newspaper using the word kunstløp round the dates of the 1917 Norwegian skating championship, which was a championship for speedskating men and three disiplines of figure skating ladies, men and pairs. Many newspapers requires norwegian IP-address, although not everyone, many are open for all, but you can make a request to see more if you send in an email and that will give you broader access for some few hours at the time. User:Migrant: When you have a chance, could you look at this source. I have a hard time with the script print. What is the name of Yngvar Bryn's partner? Bgsu98 (Talk) 16:05, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hello again Bgsu98, It looks like it is the same person as the female winner of the unofficial championship in 1906, Hertha Olsen. Don't really know why Alexia Schøien, later his wife didn't participate as his pairmate, but it could have been a year early in her progress, maybe ? Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 23:33, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
Hello again Bgsu98. Not sure how much you know about URLs. I see that you are also using newspapers linked from The National library of Norway, but you are using an unstable URL. There are stable URLs available if you click on a icon looking like a storage-box and you will find a 'Wikipedia Bokmål'-template and inside that template you will find a stable URL. I guess you can keep the defining searchterm and or page to the URL for higlighting your searchword in the external link as well. Hope this helps. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 13:57, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- That appears to be coding for the Norwegian Wikipedia. Bgsu98 (Talk) 14:11, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'll get back to this, something might have happened at the site that was unaware of... until later, best Migrant (talk – contribs) 15:13, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- Well there was a small typo in it, so instead of using this example-link format: https://www.nb.no/items/e9be4c5d6c5377114281caf4cc875582?page=1&searchText=Lefstad , which is an unstable link, you should instead use this link-format: http://www.nb.no/items/URN:NBN:no-nb_digavis_folketidendelandsudgaven_null_null_18950205_18_11_1 or better yet http://urn.nb.no/URN:NBN:no-nb_digavis_folketidendelandsudgaven_null_null_18950205_18_11_1. You can of course also include
?page=1&searchText=Lefstadfor highlighting searchtext and getting direct to the page you want to also. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 18:59, 25 July 2025 (UTC)- If I have time, I'll try to go back and convert those links. Bgsu98 (Talk) 19:04, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
User:Migrant: FYI, the date for the 1995 championships is wrong in the handbook. It was January, not February. Bgsu98 (Talk) 19:22, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yup I know, see no:wp-article no:Kunstløp-NM på skøyter 1995. There are some small errors in the mentioned handbook and that is one of them. The Norwegian Skating Association aren't that good in figure skating statistics, as they are in speed skating statistics, sorry to say.
- Another thing, in Norway we don't award the title Norgesmester to the classes for novices, only juniors and seniors. The novice-classes are awarded the title Landsmester and that is only for skaters above the age of 12 years. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 21:00, 25 July 2025 (UTC)
User:Migrant: I've been able to source everything except for 1896. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it! Bgsu98 (Talk) 02:47, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- Well, I'm sorry to say that the dates from the skating handbook I sent you pictures from are typo's, it should have said 1.-2./2. instead of 1.-2./1. So it was held at the start of February, not in January. Later I will be going through your translation-titles and correcting some name-spellings in your updates. And I'm also gonna update the norwegian corresponding IW-article. Best of luck updating/expanding the Nordic Figure Skating Championships. BTW., you did get the complete list of Norwegian Junior Champions in those pictures, didn't you ? Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 15:10, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- Of course I would appreciate any help in making the translations more precise. Also, I had a lot of difficulty deciphering the Gothic style font of those older sources, so it's very possible that I've misspelled words in those source titles. However, I am very confident that the tables are now accurate and every entry is sourced. I don't particularly care about the junior-level results, and any additions would have to work backwards from what's already there. I will expand the lead this afternoon so the article will be ready for Featured List nomination. This is the third country I have been able to fully document recently: I recently completed the charts for the Russian Figure Skating Championships and Swiss Figure Skating Championships, and am very close to finishing the French Figure Skating Championships. Thank you again for your assistance. Bgsu98 (Talk) 18:52, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
Hello again, Bgsu98. I have some further comments, and I'm taking them chronlogically by year of happening. First; there was an unoffical Championshipcompetition for the pairs in 1906 where Hertha Olsen and Finn Schiøtt won the competition, and it was held at the same time and place as the Men's single Championshipcompetition and the Men's (Allround) Championshipcompetition in Speed skating. Second; The interrupted years during WWII wasn't only because of Germany's Occupation of Norway, it was also because of the board of Norwegian Skating Association laid down there work in a meeting 29th of November 1940 (https://www.skoyteforbundet.no/siteassets/ledermote-ting/tinget-2025/arbok-2023-2025-ver-18.06.pdf See page 158; Historikk NSFs presidenter 'Styret nedla sine verv i møte 29.11.1940) and therefore wasn't any organization to organise any championship, and there were also no:Idrettsstreiken. How are you telling about the Junior-championships medalwinners before 1999 ? The records-section is that for seniors, juniors or both all-together ? Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 21:48, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not including junior-level placements prior to 1999 unless the results are easily accessible and complete. I couldn't find full results for 1998, so 1999 is where those records stop. The senior-level results are the only results that are significant. See also Estonian Figure Skating Championships, Swiss Figure Skating Championships, and British Figure Skating Championships. The records are for senior-level results only. Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:54, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
User:Migrant: Is the National Library of Norway site down>? All of the links are giving error messages. Bgsu98 (Talk) 08:40, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

- User:Migrant: I am unable to access this link. Is it perhaps inaccessible to users outside Norway? Bgsu98 (Talk) 20:24, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah some are only accessible via certain conditions, not sure why particularly that one is behind the access-wall though. Allthough some will be open after a email are sent to grant access for a limited time. So there won't be an open functionable archivelink for the time being, but the permanent url-link might be open later... I know that has happened to some books. Best of luck finding another source for your information. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 21:31, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- Can you examine the text and let me know what results are provided for the Nordic Championships? Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:33, 29 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm getting the denied access-wall too. My quick-search just found confirmation on date, place and nordic champions for the seniors in 1951. On thursday 31st thru sunday 4th I'm attending a Liverpoolfestival at Gjøvik so I won't be on wikipedia during that time. Best regards Migrant (talk – contribs) 23:06, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

Promotion of North American Figure Skating Championships
Your recent edits to 2015 Trophée Éric Bompard
introduced Harv or sfn cite errors. These three edits on 5 August - here, here, and here - all had the tag of Harv or sfn error. You introduced Sfn cites that technically had no complete or target citation to link to, the {{Sfn|International Skating Union|2014|page or pages}} cites. I was able to fix the issue and the article is now removed from Category:Harv and Sfn no-target errors using instructions found at Template:Sfn. I did change one ISU Sfn cite from 2021 to 2014, assuming since this was about a 2015 event that 2021 was in error and the 2014 date was right. If I was wrong please correct that.
