License tagging for Image:Francis Ouellette.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Francis Ouellette.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 13:06, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Please note that this image has now been deleted as it was tagged as not having any copyright status for more than seven days. I have removed it from your user page. --TheParanoidOne 12:17, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Bioinformatics.ca, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.bioinformatics.ca/about.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 17:12, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The content on the bioinformatics.ca wiki is indeed similar to what is on http://www.bioinformatics.ca/about, but that is OK, because I wrote both, and both are under CC-BY-SA-3.0 and therefore usable by all who wish to do so. All of the material (course material, postings, links directory are under the same licensing agreement, so please let us be free and share this information. francis (talk) 15:46, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article, or a draft for a Wikipedia article, about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Thank you. SmartSE (talk) 12:50, 20 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate this is from ignorance rather than malice. May I suggest that the article is temporarily moved to Draft:Francis Ouellette until it can be independently reviewed? This is what we advise per our conflict of interest guideline. SmartSE (talk) 12:56, 20 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Warning icon

The page Francis Ouellette has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Genomics jargon

[edit]

Could you please consider rewording your information on the genomics of various citrus fruits (mandarin orange, pomelo, etc.) you edited today? The genomics jargon is heavy for any reader, especially for "typical" encyclopedia users (think of a high school student or grandmother with no science education). In medicine, we have the guide "writing for the wrong audience".

In general, an encyclopedia is intended for the widest possible readership of users, who likely would have no comprehension from your descriptions, like Special:Diff/358785124. Thanks and good luck in your editing! Zefr (talk) 23:38, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the feedback. My intent was to summarize recently published genome resources for these species. I agree that some of the wording on the genus page was more technical than necessary for a general audience. I have revised the ‘‘Citrus’’ genus page to use more general language (“improved genome assemblies and gene annotations”) while retaining the underlying information. For now I’ve left the species-level pages unchanged, as they contain more detailed genomics sections specific to those organisms. Please let me know if you feel further simplification would be helpful. francis (talk) 23:57, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm an interested science user, but the jargon is still gibberish to me. What would it be like for a student doing simple research on oranges?
See my changes to the Citrus article, Special:Diff/1358789612. I went to the article to rewrite in simple language, but it is beyond me. If you comprehend this genomic analysis, you could try harder to make it understandable to anyone.
Also please note: a) use wikilinks liberally for this content, b) the format for PMC numbers is pmc= (no repeat of "pmc" before the number), and c) article numbers usually are best for a reference when only one number is present for a "page". In preview, this would produce an error notice. Thanks. Zefr (talk) 00:15, 11 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback, the article improvements, and the formatting corrections. I particularly appreciated that you took the time to rewrite the text rather than simply point out the problem. Seeing how an experienced editor approaches this kind of content is very helpful.
My professional background is in genomics and bioinformatics (but also as an educator), so I am discovering that writing for Wikipedia often requires a more moderated mindset than writing for scientific journals. I learned a lot from your edits and examples, and I will try to apply those lessons to future genomics-related contributions.
Many thanks for your help and guidance.

Draft declined
Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Your draft submission to Articles for creation has been reviewed but not accepted at this time.
Feedback
The reviewer, ArthurTheGardener, left the following feedback:
This draft reads like a resume or curriculum vitae. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a professional networking website or a place to promote yourself or your services. We also strongly discourage writing about yourself.

Articles about people must meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion for people. The draft requires multiple published secondary sources that:

  • provide significant coverage: discuss the person in detail, not just brief mentions or routine announcements;
  • are reliable: from reputable outlets with editorial oversight;
  • are independent: not connected to the person, such as interviews, press releases, the subject's own website, or sponsored content.
Please add references that meet all three of these criteria. If none exist, the subject is not yet suitable for Wikipedia.

Next steps

  • Edit Draft:Francis Ouellette to address the points above, making sure to publish any changes.
  • When you are ready to resubmit your draft for review, click the Resubmit button.
  • If you do not edit your draft in the next 6 months, it may be deleted.
