Diego Costa
[edit]Thank you so much for getting a long term protection on Diego Costa and your anti-vandalism while you were waiting. I've been a frequent contributor on that article and it has long been a target for vandals or completely clueless people who fiddle statistics or say that he isn't a "Spanish footballer" because he wasn't born there. I can now sleep a little better for the next six months! ;) '''tAD''' (talk) 13:24, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
No, problem. I've also been tired of the constant vandalism. The recent bad edits were due to his appearance in a pre-season friendly match against Olimpija. People don't read what's written or just don't care. I've also had to ask for protection because of his new start at the Chelsea for the new Premier League season (rival teams) & of the fact that he chose Spain over Brazil. He's at the same risk as Ashley Cole or Neymar. BartSmith85 (talk) 13:45, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
My "favourite" attack of a blind editor was on the page for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. People had the idea that Germany would qualify automatically, so I removed Germany from the qualified teams and put in hidden code "DO NOT INSERT GERMANY. DEFENDING CHAMPIONS DO NOT QUALIFY AUTOMATICALLY". Some IP address from the Philippines then inserted Germany and edited the hidden code to say "DO NOT DELETE GERMANY. DEFENDING CHAMPIONS DO QUALIFY AUTOMATICALLY". I thought I'd seen it all... '''tAD''' (talk) 15:28, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
re: Tiago Mendes
[edit]Hi,
I cant say how it is on all pages (and guidelines say I dont have to). It is impossible to follow all pages. But yes, we should avoid leagues on all the league pages if I remember correctly. But to be sure it is best to find old consensus on FOOTY archives or start a new discussion at WT:FOOTY. About "in Spain" or "Spanish" it is about what sounds best and I believe second option sounds better but that is just my opinion. QED237 (talk) 17:59, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I've also read it earlier that we mshould avoid league names, but seeing them on more popular player pages I've thought both forms are correct and changed it that only time. I also think "plays for Spanish club..." sounds best as "plays for (...) in Spain" sounds a bit weird (I always use the first form). However, try to explain this to some stubborn prolific contributors. Some people think their version is the only option and can't change their minds. The best way to avoid these situations - a few contributors should vote & choose the version that gets the most votes.BartSmith85 (talk) 18:18, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
