This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Hi there
[edit]I wanted to reach out and say I empathize with your recent struggles. Right now I will only say that if you are indeed new to Wiki and not an alt-account, read up on policies and guidelines, do's and dont's etc...and look at the way more experienced editors communicate and interact when they have disagreements. Of course not all of them are effective, but look at the ones that are effective in building CONSENSUS. The place to start is always always always WP:AGF. AGF until there is no doubt that someone is acting in bad faith, with evidence and "diffs". Until then you must give everyone the benefit of the doubt, even if it is painfully difficult. Sometimes its good to just step away and not say whats on your mind right away. Never edit and comment things impulsively, always do it with a measure of thought and consideration for how the readers may perceive it. Do not try to rush the process. Best of luck. Cheers. Hi Aunger67! I noticed that you recently made an edit and marked it as "minor", but it may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia: it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:16, 6 March 2025 (UTC)

Sidebar vs. Navbox
[edit]A friendly reminder: see Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and navigation templates: sidebars and navboxes are not the same thing, and in fact they are mutually exclusive! Bruce leverett (talk) 04:15, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

Are you sure you have the correct "Hans Deutsch"
[edit]Hi Aunger67, You added to the Hans Deutsch Wikipedia page statements indicating that he was an artist who created artwork for the Unitarian Church. However, the Wikipedia page is about a Hans Deutch who was Jewish refugee and lawyer involved in Nazi-era restitution cases. Are you absolutely certain that you have the right "Hans Deutsch"? Anything is possible, of course, but it would be prudent to double check. Especially since a large number of Unitarian links have been added to Hans Deutsch's page as well as a Unitarian badge. Here is the page in English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Deutsch Thank you. Eli185 (talk) 08:11, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I just consulted some more sources, and I'm actually more uncertain now.
- On page 75 of A Chosen Faith (an important text in the Unitarian Universalist tradition which includes a lot of history about Unitarians, Universalists, and UUs) by John A. Buehrens and Forrest Church, the Deutsch who created the flaming chalice logo is referred to as a "Czech artist" who "was asked to design a symbol for the Unitarian Service Committee, which had been formed to assist people like him to flee from the Nazis." However, this article (https://www.uua.org/beliefs/who-we-are/chalice) (which is still active on the Unitarian Universalist Association website) says: "Hans Deutsch, an Austrian artist, first brought together the chalice and the flame as a Unitarian symbol during his work with the Unitarian Service Committee during World War II."
- Seems like there is a bit of a conflict between both of these sources? The Hans Deutsch on Wikipedia does flee Europe in the time frame ("Deutsch managed to flee abroad after Anschluss with Hitler's Third Reich in 1938") that is suggested about the artist Deutsch in A Chosen Faith--which states the artist Deutsch and the USC produced the symbol in 1939 after he'd fled. However, that could merely be a coincidence, and I still haven't figured about what the deal with the discrepancy between the Czech and Austrian connections to the artist.
- I want to keep digging deeper to get to the bottom of it so we can have accurate information on Wikipedia here, and if these references are actually about one individual. Do you have any sources to suggest?Aunger67 (talk) Aunger67 (talk) 16:59, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi again--found this obit for former USC leader Charles Joy (https://www.harvardsquarelibrary.org/biographies/charles-rhind-joy). The Deutsch artist is mentioned in more detail here, and I'm now of the opinion that this is a different Deustch than the one listed on the WP article:
- "Joy asked an artist and an employee of the Unitarian Service Committee, Hans Deutsch, to design a symbol that would be placed on all Unitarian documents. Deutsch was a refugee from Paris who had been a successful painter and musician. Living in Paris during the 1930’s Deutsch drew critical cartoons of Adolf Hitler. When the Nazis invaded Paris in 1940, he abandoned all he had and fled to the South of France, then to Spain, and finally, with an altered passport, into Portugal. It was there that he met Joy, who, was then European commissioner of the Unitarian Service Committee and was busy overseeing a secret network of couriers and agents."
- These details don't line-up with this Hans Deustch, so I'll begin the work of separating those two individuals on WP. Aunger67 (talk) 17:23, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
