Featuring your work on Wikipedia's front page: DYKs

[edit]

Thank you for your recent articles, including Army of the Kingdom of Naples (Napoleonic), which I read with interest. When you create an extensive and well referenced article, you may want to have it featured on Wikipedia's main page in the Did You Know section. Articles included there will be read by thousands of our viewers. To do so, add your article to the list at T:TDYK. This can be also done through this helpful user script: User:SD0001/DYK-helper. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

[edit]

Thank you for your recent articles, including Army of the Kingdom of Naples (Napoleonic), which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Thanks to them, WikiProject members are more easily able to defend your work from deletion, or simply help try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information about using those talk page templates. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:56, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Support in the Napoleonic history project

[edit]

Hi Adonis, I was wondering as you are an active editor with an interest in Italian Napoleonic history if you might be willing to have a look at;

Bertrand Clauzel - Wikipedia

> In 1798, Clauzel became the chief of staff to General Emmanuel de Grouchy, in which role he negotiated the abdication of the King of Sardinia in December 1798. In 1799, Clauzel was promoted to général de brigade. In this rank, he served in Italy, during which he won great distinction at the battles of Trebbia and Novi. Clauzel took command of the 4th Division under General Louis-Gabriel Suchet in 1800, and during the campaign that spring, he seized the redoubt of Melogno and participated in the attack on Monte-San-Giacomo. Months later, in December, he fought at Pozzolo.

There is only that one short paragraph about his time but I thought it might interest you / you might be a good person to ask because of your history with the kingdom of Naples and two Scillies projects.

In particular it would be great if you could,

#1 double check that I cited the correct battle sites.

#2 Any information on his role in negotiating with the King of Sardinia might be interesting / help expands the articles completeness.

#3 Any other information as to what exactly he did to win distinction at Trebbia / Novi, Melogno etc

Or suggestions on sources I might try to accomplish any of these.

Thanks, and if in future you are looking for Napoleonic era support do pop anything on my talk page

Hello LeChatiliers, I would be more than glad to help! I am quite active with Napoleonic research these days, and I could help with your article on Clauzel. Do you perhaps have another medium of communication that we could use - to make sending sources easier? All the best. AdonisWW2 (talk) 21:26, 4 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Would this -> Special:EmailUser/LeChatiliers Pupper not be sufficient?
The only sources related to his time in Italy that I used are all open source or at least available online - mainly Dictionnaire Biographique Des Generaux Et Amiraux De La Revolution Et De L'Empire Volume 1 : Georges Six : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive LeChatiliers Pupper (talk) 22:41, 4 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
in particular there is this quote re his Sardinian negotiations on the FR wiki page;
Which basically says clauzel did the negotiating with zeal and energy but alas no source is give LeChatiliers Pupper (talk) 22:48, 4 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello LeChatiliers,
Firstly, the battle site of Monte-San-Giacomo is cited wrong, it is actually Colla di San Giacomo in Liguria and not the town in Southern Italy.
The source of the quote from the French wikipedia page is from Lievyns, Verdot, Bégat. "Fastes de la Légion-d'honneur: biographie de tous les décorés accompagnée de l'histoire législative et réglementaire de l'ordre", Vol. 5, 1847. on Page 95, under the entry on Clauzel. You will find additional info here, although it appears it is already the main source of the entire French wikipedia page on Clauzel, as it follows it almost exactly.
Additional sources on his amicability towards the Sardinian royals and his general conduct in 1798 are:
Botta, "Storia d'Italia 1789-1814", Volume 3, pp. 298-299.
Sarrut, "Quelques Mots a Monsieur Le Maréchal Clauzel". I advise reading all of this for a clearer picture.
There is also the seminal work Gachot, "La première campagne d'Italie (1795 à 1798)", which I would advise searching for further information on the combat at Melogno.
For further biographical information, you should consider reading Clauzel's own work, "Explications du maréchal Clauzel", written after his fall from grace in 1837 where he explains his conduct in Algeria. There is anecdotal information here about his dealings with the House of Savoy.
All the best, and do not hesitate to contact me for further guidance. AdonisWW2 (talk) 13:16, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the assistance I think that really does round out most of the lighter aspects of the page
The only remaining area that might do with some expansion might be
> After his return to France, ... Until in 1806 when he was sent to the army of Naples.
Any ideas on what Clauzel got up to with the army of Naples? LeChatiliers Pupper (talk) 12:16, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think his time in naples looks to be just depot work / logistics and support type as the army got up an running but I may be wrong - it might even warrant a short addition to your article on the army im not sure. LeChatiliers Pupper (talk) 12:18, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
