Claude-André Paquelin (1836 – 1 May 1905) was a French physician who invented a thermocautery device.[1]
Paquelin did not accept that diseases could be caused by microbes.[2]
Paquelin was born in Avignon, France on 30 December 1836.[4]
In 1873, Paquelin took over editorship of the medical journal La Tribune Médicale which had been founded by Dr Marchal de Calvi.[5]
Paquelin died unexpectedly of a cerebral hemorrhage on May 1, 1905.[6] He was survived by his wife and their daughter.[7] His daughter, Suzanne (1879-1953) translated Goethe's Faust Parts I and II from the original German into French.

A street in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, Rue du Docteur Paquelin, was named in his honor in 1910.[8] A street in Paquelin's city of birth, Avignon, is also named after him.[9]
